The Rockies reportedly said he was available and that they're looking for a CF prospect or relievers. This kid is a stud, he's young, is a ground-ball pitcher, and is a borderline ace. He would be a #2 in our rotation, if he would agree to sign a contract extension if he was delt to us we should seriously try to get him. If they want Pie and another prospect it would be more then worth it.

Would be a nice pickup if we could get him and yes, I would trade Pie for him.:)

Would be a nice pickup if we could get him and yes, I would trade Pie for him.:)I am not saying I agree either way, but the Cubs wouldnt part with Pie last year for Tejada...why would they give him up this year for Jason Jennings? I can not imagine he has fallen that out of favor with the Cubs brass.

Trust me us not getting Tejada wasn't because of "Our" choice lol. Pie wouldn't have been enough for Tejada anyway and Nick Markakis was and is a better prospect at that time. Reports especially regarding the cubs you can never take for face value. Lot's of people are getting worried about Pie and if they smell his value going down I would think they would deal him. He isn't progressing like he should and his performance so far in witnerball is horrendous. If they really want Soriano like claimed Pie becomes expendable.

Cubs need some quality pitching. That's why I think they would part with Pie.
I don't think Pie was in the talks with Tejada anyway...was he?

I doubt he was, might have been rumors but with the OF's they have it would make no sense. As far as position prospects at the time of the attempt we made at him it was probably Cedeno.

I live in the DC/Baltimore area, and Pie was in about every publication when the Tejada rumors started. Outside Markakis Pie would be the next best thing for them. They didnt know what they had in Patterson and people like Matos and Conine were going nowhere with them.
People forget Pie is still only like 20 years old. Its not time to throw him out the window for a pitcher like Jason Jennings.
Now I do agree if we get Soriano, then Pie becomes more expendable....but I still feel he is worth alot more than Jason Jennings.

Thats the thing though only Cub fans think Pie is worth that much he isn't even a top 20 prospect anymore and his performance in winterball is not helping his stock. What we think of him and what the rest of the other leagues scouts think is very different. The cubs as a whole tend to over value there prospects and it's shown unfortunately. We haven't exactly had a poition prospect pan out in a while.

He still has tremendous upside and after 1 bad season you just dont toss him. Not for Jason Jennings anyway.

If we sign Soriano he becomes expendable and Jason Jennings is a very good starter, he's a decent 2 or a very good 3. You're not going to get an ace for Pie he's a good prospect, but he's no Howie Kendrick or Delmon Young. I like Pie, but I'm realistic and I'm putting the blue colored cub glasses down lol he's been injury prone the past couple seasons and when you factor a bad season at AAA and the fact that he's doing so bad in winterball the club there may cut him it makes you nervous. He's at his highest value right now and ONLY if we get a stud CF will it make it a smart thing to deal him. We don't want another Angel Guzman or Roosevelt Brown situation where we hold onto him so long that he looses his value and becomes a fork in the road where we can't lose him because what we would get is peanuts, but he can't help the team cause he's not good enough yet. Not saying that will happen I like Pie, but we need to monitor him and do what's best for the team. I mean 3 years ago people wanted Guzman like crazy and now look we couldn't deal him for Matt Karchner lmao.

Dig your thinking 007 !! Great post and I couldn't agree more with you . I think Pie is like the picture of the twice cooked pork at the Chinese restaurant . They both look good till you get them on the plate .
P.S. Got my blue glasses on too
