The Cardinals always seem to put together a good team, even with no name players. However, will LaRussa's troubles create an unwanted distraction for the reigning WS Champs?

I just was reading a story in Stl Post about how the wind in Florida this ST has played a huge factor on poor hitting for teams in the Grapefruit League. This has an obvious effect on the pitching. Again, it is spring training and as of Sunday means nothing. I think Carpenter will be great as usual, but after that who do they have?

I do not take to much stock in their spring training ERAs. A couple of these guys are relievers that I am sure will break down as the season goes along. No matter what I am sure they will be tough they always are.

If they were playing in Arizona it would've been a whole different ballgame...;) ;)
I still they are the team to beat. I always count out. I won't this year.

How can you say a bullpen with 2 guys coming from the 'pen to the rotation is a top rotation? They will break down because I'm sure they've never thrown more than 100-150 innings. They'll hit a wall when they get to these numbers.

I agree. I think their rotation will be better than a lot of people are thinking, but my guess would be Reyes, Looper, and Wainwright will all hit a wall come the last couple months of the season. Let's just hope none of it matters anyway and the Cubs are firmly in control of the division at that time. :D

That is the best point I've heard yet. Its so so true, thats the reason (the biggest reason other that the pitcher himself) that they can have crappy pitchers pitch well, the infield is really good with the leather. I'm not saying that all the Cardinals pitchers are that bad but when they pitch (Just like almost every ML team) the starter is in charge of infielders positions so he can pitch for example, low and outside to a right handed hitter and try to induce a ground ball to the first base side. This is one thing that they do very very well. It all comes down to execution, one thing that was lacking under Baker last season.
