I was over at my parent's house with my son, going through a bunch of my old VHS movies. I came across something that totally made me forget that we just lost the opening day game....

I have playing on my tv right now, the tape of August 8, 1988!!!!!! Let there be lights! Oh, the memories! The players... Jack Brickhouse, Harry, Steve Stone, even the commercials take me back to that night!

It still gives me goosebumps. 40,000 people count and say in unison "One, Two, Three....LET THERE BE LIGHTS". Jack Brickhouse does the MC ceremonies and they have a 91 year old man (the oldest Season Ticket Holder) push the "button" for the lights. Lots of old time Cubs on hand for it. Not to mention, getting to see a whole game with Harry and Steve calling it.
Bill Murray was also in the booth helping to add his comments in there.

Outside of Wrigley looked a lot like it did in 2003 during the playoffs.
The game:

The first at bat of the game... a homer out onto Waveland. Ryno's first at bat of the game... a homer. There is actually a weather alert that scrolls across the bottom of the tv before the rains hit. The wind picks up so much on the field, they have to call time out so the umps can get the dust out of their eyes. I have seen winds blow at Wrigley, but nothing like this. The winds shifted almost immediately, and the flags were almost blowing off the poles. They had to pull the scoreboard camera inside. Then came the torrential downpours. The kicker? In August of 1988, Illinois was in the middle of one of the worst droughts in over a century! Farmers were worried about their crops. There hadn't been rain at all for most of the summer and the one night it rains... the night of the controversial lights.

Not to mention that during the rain delay, Al Nipper, Maddux, Jody Davis and many of the other team members ran out onto the field and used the tarp as a slip and slide! Harry and Steve were rating each of the guys and their slide techniques (9.0) The crowd started chanting "Jo--DEE, Jo-DEE".

It's on VHS, so I'll have to see if I can figure out how to get it on my computer.
