Those two days off felt like Weeks. I feel good about today's game. Eventually we got to figure out Harang....Right?!?!?!

Z usually pitches best in Wrigley. Wish I was there!

cubbiechris
Apr 13th 2007, 3:09 pm
Wow! What a job by Wuertz! K's the side! He salvaged this game!

The Cubs gave their "Ace" a 5 run lead and he couldn't even qualify for the win? Unreal...

roenick99
Apr 13th 2007, 3:10 pm
Clutch Wuertz today boys. He has partially redeemed himself in my eyes from that awesome performance. I have been hard on him early on (based on last year's IRA), but this was a steller relief outing for Clutch.

Tell me the Reds don't have a player named cunnilingus.

roenick99

Boy, any momentum they may have gained from Wuertz is swept away by Cunnilingus getting ready to strike out the side. Brilliant!

Let's see if the Cubs go by the script and let the Reds tack on to their lead shall we???

Actually, my reason for not liking Wuertz is for usually doing what Ohman did and coming in with men on base, letting a couple score, and then he leaves with ERA still at zero and the lead is gone or worse.

roenick99
Apr 13th 2007, 4:00 pm
So, why did he take Cotts out to put in Howry when Howry will be the next batter up at the bottom of the inning? I don't get it. Cotts could easily go another inning or so. Now you waste a pitcher and if they tie it up and go extra innings that will come back to bite them.

Bullpen has been impressive...Well, besides stupid Ohman.

Drockvb
Apr 13th 2007, 4:05 pm
This game is a whole lot like last year. End up outhitting the other team, but loose anyway. This happened a ton last year. This says alot about hitting in the clutch (or lack there of).

What's the big deal if he pitch hits for Cotts or Howry? Howry not going to go two innings? It's a moot point now because Howry got the job done.

Edit...Disregard. I missread your post.

Remember those days when Lou said the cubs were going to put up crooked numbers out of the gate??

Also, IMO Z has been able to get away with too much garbage (walks, sloppy pitching, behaviour) the last two years simply because of his star status and the mentality of the Baker regime. No one had the guts to really reign him in.

What happened to the Z who used his sinker more? He's need to get back to throwing K's and stop with the nibbling! Throw stikes and ease up on the fastball and you'll get more movement.

Hey Ivy, be very glad that you didn't see it. The train wreck all happened in ONE inning! It didn't even seem real. It was disappointing to say the least. What made it worse was the lead we had the first four innings really fooled me, then to lose it ALL in one inning was unbelievable. I couldn't follow the game all the way through, as I can only listen to the game while I'm in the car delivering my pizzas and the radio in the store can't pick up AM stations very well. I heard the first inning when the Cubs went to the 2-0 lead, and then my boss (who was driving today) said they were up 3-0. Then about an hour or so later, I take a drive, it's the bottom of the fifth, and the Cubs are down 6-5! I didn't know what happened until I heard the post game wrap and the details of the fifth inning. I can't believe how the Cubs can't get one measly run in five innings after scoring five in the first four! I was thinking when I heard a snip of Lou's tirade in the pressroom that if the Cubs keep losing as they do, he'll quit by the end of April.

I'm missed it, Lou's tirade included that if this continues he'll quit by the end of April? He hasn't seen anything yet!! As I was driving today after viewing this game, I thought about what Lou might be thinking of what Dusty went through. Not that I think DB was a great manager, it's just that what happened in the game was bad enough for Lou to maybe have some sympathy for Dusty. :(

What you said made sense CUBScrazy22, but the majority of reporters don't know jack s--t about baseball. They have to ask a misinformed open-ended question like that to be able to get the scoop that they are paid to get. And Lou, being the Sweet Lou that he is, answered the way he does to all of the media. :D

I might try to watch the first 5 innings on the mlb.tv archive and that Wuertz escape, i tried to watch it though it was just one of those days. I am so tired of the Reds pounding the CUbs and it doesnt help that my best friend is a Reds fan. Ever since that late season collapse in 2004 i've just despised the Reds
