Didn't Hensley pitch a CG shutout against the Cubs last year???
The way the Pads bullpen is going, the Cubs HAVE to get things going against the Pads starters.

Who's pitching the Cards this weekend???
Z, Lilly, Marquis??
I assuming Hill will probably pitch the last game in Pads series based on what Lou said about breaking up the lefties.

Well, the Cubs got themselves a couple of runs in the first inning. After Marquis pitched a 1-2-3 inning (after almost getting attacked by a seagull dropping his dinner), Soriano led off with a solid single up the middle. He advanced on a hit-and-run grounder to first by Theriot. Lee singled Soriano in on another smash up the middle. After a wild pitch advanced Lee to second, Murton singled to left. Quade aggressively sent Lee home, and the throw from left went up the first-base line. Barrett then lined the ball right up the middle, but since Murton was running on the play, the ball found the second-baseman's mitt on the fly, and he tagged Murton for the tough-luck DP.

Barrett got sawed off, but was able to lift one to Cruz in center and got Theriot home on a sac fly. Theriot had a great slide around the catcher, swiping the dish to make it 12-1. Floyd grounded to the pitcher, who then threw it to first, thinking there was two outs.

Its a non save opportunity, leads to large for a save
Actually, there are three criteria for a save. One of the following three must be satisfied for a save:
1. Three innings in relief
2. One inning with a three-run-or-less lead
3. Entering the game with the tying run on deck.
If Guzman pitches the ninth without giving up the lead, he has the save because he would have three innings pitched.
VanMan
Apr 16th 2007, 9:28 pm
Guzman's batting, so he might stay in for the three-inning save. Otherwise, Ohman is in the pen.
VanMan
Apr 16th 2007, 9:33 pm
Cubs go down 1-2-3, and there will be no save. Ohman coming in for the ninth. Just have to hope he doesn't give up a bunch of runs in this situation.
VanMan
Apr 16th 2007, 9:36 pm
Ohman starts with a K. That's more like it. Now 17 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings out of the pen.
VanMan
Apr 16th 2007, 9:38 pm
Izturis can't get the batter out from deep in the hole.
VanMan

Apr 16th 2007, 9:39 pm
Theriot catches the liner for the second out. The crowd's on its feet!
VanMan
Apr 16th 2007, 9:41 pm
Ohman gives up a HR to Marcus Gilles, but at this point, it's meaningless. 12-4 Cubs.

One of my best friends is a die hard Cub fan...her husband is a die hard Cardinal fan. They have two kids, one is a Cub fan, the other a Cardinal fan. They make a point of going to both Wrigley and Busch for a Cubs/Cards game each year. She wears the pants in the family, so even if the Cubs lose, her husband knows better than to gloat.
If Pat really wanted to get a reaction from Ron, he should have asked him if he would have ever married a Mets fan! To this day, Ron still hates the Mets with a passion because of the collapse in '69 (I wasn't around for that, but have heard and read lots about it.)

I remember hearing last season when Greg Maddux told his former teammate Jason Marquis to contact Larry Rothschild after the season. Marquis took his advise, and pitched for Rothschild. Shortly afterwards, the Cubs signed Marquis to a three year deal. Maddux saw something good in this guy, and if he's good enough for Maddux, he's good enough for me also.
All I heard all winter was negative feedback for the Marquis signing. As far as I'm concerned, Tony "the sleeping drunk" LaRussa ruined the guys confidence by leaving him in to get shelled in two games.
Marquis is most effective when he is able to keep the ball down for strikes. So far, he is is doing exactly that. I hope that he keeps it up, or down in this case.
