I know he's hitting, and has a really good BA, but when is he gonna hit a homer!? Every day I say that it's gonna be the game he hits his first. I'm not mad, because I'll know he'll start hitting, and get into a nice home run groove, but I still wonder why he hasn't. And Soriano would be in this thread too, but he was injured for a week.

I've been wondering the same thing. I was just discussing w/ my friends earlier today that they should bat Lee 2nd this year b/c of the way he's been taking a lot of pitches and getting on base. I was being sarcastic, but I'd really like to see him hit a HR soon. In his defense he did hit a couple of balls pretty hard the other day that probably would have been gone if they weren't hit against the wind, but he's driven plenty of balls out against the wind the last couple of years.

I am sure they will come, then when they do they will be in bunches. But I am with you, we need them now. 7-11 after 18 games is pathetic.

Not to be negative, but there's a good chance Lee's days as a 30+ HR threat are over for awhile. Quite a few guys who sustained the type of severe wrist injury that he did lost their power stroke when they came back. He's also third in the league in BABIP (.460) which means he has been very lucky as to where he's been hitting the ball. All in all some disturbing trends indeed.

I agree with Hi Im Fred. A lot of pitchers are still walking him though. He needs to start playing some long ball. Small ball won't win games all year.

I agree with the two above comments, it may take him a while to get back into the groove after a wrist injury.

I would have thought the same thing but he was hitting a lot in ST, and those parks can be bigger then most major league ballparks, and there were a few earlier this season that would have easily been homers on warm days. Like I said, not showing him disrespect, and I think he will get 1 soon, but I just really want to see one!

would've been nice for a couple of games in recent memory, but the Cubs just do not have the personal for it.

No to be a jerk but theres no reason to think he wont hit 30+ this year. He is hitting for a high avg (thats what you want from your no. 3 hitter. it tells you he can hit just about every pitch, slider, curve and so on). So I'm not worried, its only 3 weeks into the season and Lou has yet to make his impact. They can still win this series against the Brewers so I'm not concerned with Lee trying to hit every ball out of the park and striking out every A/B. Soriano and Lee have not hit a homer yet. I think its coming (as soon as it is warmer :D ) the ball flys out with high temps and no wind (rare). I just wish we could watch them win a 1 run game  . That makes me mmmaaaaddd!!

WOW !
I just looked a Lee's hitting chart ( http://mlb.mlb.com/stats/individual_player_hitting_chart.jsp?c_id=mlb&playerID=117601&statType=1 ) and was amazed that an extremely high percentage of his hits are to the opposite field (this is at Wrigley 2007). I don't know exactly what this signifies but I'm guessing it has something to do with the way he is being pitched. They're staying away from his power (respect). At least he is smart and skilled enought to hit what they give him.
I also hope the HRs start flying soon .

I just looked at Miller Park (Brewers), Great American Ball Park (Reds) and Turner Field (Braves). This "trend" is complete. A very high percentage of his hits (it looks like 70% or more) are opposite field (especially fly balls - we were talking about HRs).
What does this mean?

I have noticed these teams pitching not only Lee away but almost the entire team is being pitched that way. All this is gonna do is inflate A Rams numbers because he is gonna make them pay!!

Correct, they pitch away to keep him from hitting homers. He just goes with the pitch (like Theriot and DeRosa). When they miss inside he can hit them out like very few can.

You and me both. No lead is safe the way our bullpen has been pitching.

Thank God they pulled it out, I do not think my heart could take another blown game and heartbreaking loss.

Actually, the pitching hasn't been as bad as we think they've been. It's mostly the lack of clutch hitting and one bad inning per game on the mound that had done the Cubs in so far. Len has mentioned several times in broadcasts that when the Cubs hitting clicks, the pitching sours, but when the starters throw a gem, the hitting can't get on track. Just have to get them going at the same time.
