The St. Louis Cardinals claimed reliever Todd Wellemeyer off waivers from the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday, and plan to add him to their roster this weekend.

Wellemeyer, a 28-year-old right-hander, was 0-1 with a 10.34 ERA in 12 games for the Royals this season, allowing 25 hits in 15 2-3 innings. He has a career record of 6-8 with a 5.65 ERA.

He probably will become great on the Cardinals.Their pitching coach can work magic.Do you remember how good he looked when he first came up?

I am not sold on the Card's pitching coach anymore... they gave up on Marquis, but now look, the guy that they cut from their World Series roster is pitching wonderfully for us! Larry Rothchild has been criticized over and over again for the problems in our bullpen, but I have to hand it to him, he has turned both Marquis around and after watching Big Z last night, and hearing that both Marquis and Rothchild had a lot to do with "fixing" Z's problems, I am seeing the positives of Ole Larry as our pitching coach.

No, Mickey, I haven't seen you do so, but in general, especially last year. "Rothchild must go" threads all over the place...callers on talk radio. He was very unpopular, and many didn't understand why he was brought back with the Lou tenure. When the pitching isn't good (as in last year, and the whole Prior/Wood thing) the pitching coach a lot of times gets the short end of it all.

Every game we lose my dad goes "kiss Lou goodbye" even when the bullpen blows it. I keep telling him it's not his fault-he's not the one out there making errors and not hitting. He says the manager always takes the blame, which I can see to a certain point. I am starting starting to like Larry more now that we have pitching this year.
