This is the fourth annual Celebrity Bowling Tournament and Kerry and his wife, Sarah, announced yesterday that all proceeds from the event, which takes place July 22 at the 10pin Lounge, will be donated to Project 3000!
"We have a Cub family member in need," Wood said at a Wrigley Field news conference. "And we thought this was the right thing to do."
Wood joins catcher Michael Barrett and closer Ryan Dempster, who already have donated a combined $181,000 toward the campaign—a $50,000 initial donation and additional donations based on their home runs and saves, respectively.
Marlins pitcher Dontrelle Willis also has donated more than $15,000 to Project 3000, including a $10,000 initial donation and additional donations based on strikeouts.
Wood said his tournament has raised more than $1 million for Children's Memorial Hospital the last three years, and he hopes to exceed that amount this year through donations, sponsorships and an auction of Cubs memorabilia.
To sponsor a lane, or purchase standing-room-only tickets to Wood's bowling event, call 212-784-6450 or go to www.kerrywoodstrikezone.com. (http://www.kerrywoodstrikezone.com) Wood, who currently is rehabbing his right shoulder, said he probably will bowl left-handed.
If you check out the website, there are a lot of really neat pictures on there from the past few years.
I know a lot of people are fed up with Kerry Wood...but this guy has a lot of heart and class. He has been very active in the Children's Hospital and children's cancer wards in the Chicago hospitals actually volunteering there and helping with raising money and making donations.
