Barrett to sit out todays game

Michael Barrett, who was involved in a skirmish with teammate Carlos Zambrano in the dugout and clubhouse on Friday, will not be in the starting lineup Saturday. He had six stitches in his lip following the incident.

Zambrano was fined by the club for his actions


This is one day I wish the game was on Comcast instead of WGN, Comcast airs the pregame press conferences. Is Barrett sitting due to the stiches or as a punishment? It doesn't say if Barrett was fined or not.

Hill and Hill are the battery mates today....um, okay, maybe "battery" isn't a good word to use today. Hill's catcher today will be Hill :)

BUT.... is Barrett available to backup Hill if needed? If not, who is our backup catcher? For some reason, and I may be completely wrong on this, I seem to remember once Murton was considered last year as the emergency back up catcher, but I read where he is going to get the start in right field. Oh, what issues this "group of 25 men" have (I am still refusing to use the word TEAM until they can prove to us they know the meaning of that word)

Today will mark the first game in franchise history that the Cubs will have a starting battery with the same name.

Ron Davis and Jody Davis appeared as pitcher and catcher in the same game 33 times in Chicago from August 14, 1986-August 3, 1987, but they never appeared as a starting battery..

Barrett is available today. Mabry was the backup catcher last year, Murton is the backup this year: this came up in May when Hank was appearing in court in Florida!
