View Full Version : The Mlwaukee Series is so crucial!

Sunday's momentum HAS to carry over to this series. This series may very well make or break our season. We sweep (I know, probably not, BUT if we do), we are only 4.5 games out. If we get swept, we are 10.5 games out-which then it isn't impossible to catch them, but improbable.
Tonight's game may be key as they have Dave Bush on the mound, who is the weak link in their rotation. Marquis has to be on top of his game tonight. The bats they used on Sunday had better have been the first things loaded on that bus to Milwaukee. I hope they stick with the same lineup they used on Sunday, as we actually saw what this team is capable of. Yesterday's lineup displayed what this team was built to do...and Marshall.... WOW! We got the pitching...we got the defense... we got the offense....WE GOT A WIN!
Baseball and superstition go hand in hand...and in the Sun Times today, the reporter wrote this:
The rain held off Sunday at Wrigley Field until the game ended and the team bus was headed to Milwaukee. The showers didn't last long, and when the skies cleared, there was a rainbow over Lake Michigan. Maybe it's an omen.

Good post! Yes, we definitely need to win this series, and a sweep would be especially great. We face Milwaukee again at the end of the month. Maybe during that series, it will be the Brewers trying to catch up with the 1st place Cubs.
Let's get some runs! And Go Cubs!

It is a big series. I'm keeping my fingers crossed o see the outcome. We won't see Sheets or Capuano so that's a plus. IThe power was nice yesterday, but we'll need consistant hitting and the baserunning and defense not to **** the bed. Hopefully Pie can be the spark the team needs...

A sweep is wanted and needed. But we must take at least 2 out of 3.

It is too early in the season to say a sweep is a must but it would give us 3 games. If we win 2 of 3 we only gain 1 game. Huge difference. Thank God we dont have to see Capuano aka Sandy Koufax to Cub players. Now would be the time to sweep. Bush scares me a little though. We put a 6 spot on him in the first inning early in the year. After that inning he became unhittable the rest of the night.

I think Rickie Weeks is on the DL so we don't have to worry about him
I'm all for walking Prince Fielder every at-bat unless the Cubs are ahead by at least 6 runs

A sweep will be tough but 2 of 3 is doable. I think the pitching match ups favor us.

I will take the 2 out of 3 as long as we look like we are playing better baseball.

Basically, the Cubs just need to win games one at a time. They shouldn't think about sweeping the Brewers until we win tonight and tomorrow night. We need about 108 one-game win streaks. That should be the Cubs' mindset.

One down, two to go. Need a big start from Lilly tomorrow.

So true, VanMan. They need to take it one game at a time and not get ahead of themselves.

Was he unhittable or were the Cubs unable to hit ? With this team it is all-to-often the later.

Big series indeed. In my opinion, a sweep is a must here, especially after winning the first game. It's about playing better baseball, showing the Brewers they have something to worry about, and getting a winning streak going to have some momentum for the rest of this month. I don't want to seem greedy with the way we have played lately, but to me a sweep is critical right now. Great game by Marquis tonight. Lilly's turn to step up big and the offense to give him some support.

Len and Bob kept praising Marquis on not having his best stuff tonight, yet finding a way to keep the Cubs in the game. And Soriano is now starting to show us the Soriano we thought we were getting when we signed him. I love Pie batting second...this kid is doing much better now than he was when he was here before! Kudos to the coaching staff in Iowa. I'm still not sold on Jones or Izturis. I don't like that TheRiot wasn't in the lineup, but I realize these guys all need to get playing time. And the bullpen came through tonight. What a relief. I really like Marmol in the pen. Nice add there. It's two games, but really, in those two games, I'm really starting to see some positive things and the "team" is starting to come together. I feel more confident 1-4 hitters... a little more confidence in the pen.... now, to keep it rolling. I think once a couple of these guys get really hot (which it is appearing Soriano is starting to....) I think the rest of the lineup will relax and we will see some offensive power that we thought we were going to get. Can you imagine what it would be like to have Lee, Ram, Fonzi, and even Barrett and Jones...perhaps Derosa, all get hot at once!

What I liked is that they found their way out of jams. Stayed close and had some clutch hitting late in the game. Of course the dropped fly between five infielders was not good. But all in all a better performance then we have seen in awhile.
