Ok i dont really have a good story, but this reminded me of all the names Harry Carey used to mess up. I remember him calling George Bell, George Bush. LOL
I really miss hearing Harry.

Or how about when he tried pronouncing people's names backwards? I really miss the guy. The best the Cubs have ever had.:)

I miss Harry and Stoney. I thought I heard Stone might be coming back at some point. Anybody else heard that?

I use to love when the sun would be slightly hidden and they would pan down on the hitter when he stepped out of the batters box and Harry would say "Only The Shadow Knows". God I miss him :(

I think the best Harry moment whenever the Cubs played the Dodgers he always tried to pronounce Mark Grudzielanek's last name. I think he just gave up and started calling him G-Man if I remember right.

Harry was the best. Too bad he never saw the cubs win a WS. But then again, no one alive has. :(

Harry made watching loosing baseball fun. You could watch the game in late August into September and enjoy it. He was entertaining. Even when he wasn't trying to be funny, he could make us chuckle. His silly goof-ups and his backwards spelling call-outs. He was an icon in cub history. He will never be forgotten.

I didn't really get into baseball until last season, so I wasn't really there for his antics. Kinda sucks.

I always loved the days of Steve Stone and Harry Carey, no matter who the Cubs put in the booth it will never be the same as those two. I lost touch with baseball when all the things had happened with Steve Stone. Can anyone fill me in on what happened with Stone and the Cubs?Harry Carey will always be a Chicago legend and may he RIP. We miss you Harry

I think what happened after the last few games of 2004 Steve Stone highly critized the team and Dusty, which a few Cub players got all ticked off about it. More or less its the same thing Harry would say if the Cubs were losing to the Mets and Reds when we should have spanked them and went on to the 04 playoffs instead of going 2-7 and blowing the playoff chance.

Good comparison. I miss both stone and carey in the booth. I like Len and Bob though, both are very knowledgable. Now across town, thats a different story, glad the volume button works.

I would love to share my Harry stuff with you guys, but I'd have to have an admin or mods word that it would be locked and not going to be copied. I spent a lot of time putting a tribute to Harry together and don't want it to be snagged.

Don't mean to sound rude but it took me a long time to do it. It's a worthy tribute to a great broadcaster.

Thanks for understanding. I promise if I get someone on this site that can give me their word it won't be copied, I'll post my tribute. It's been on several websites and it'll bring back memories. Probably stuff you forgot about............

Here's a sample.....

Well, all I could do is lock the thread, but that really won't protect anything for you. The only thing I would say is you could PM it to people who really want to know (like me!), but again, you never know what they will do with it. I would suggest just posting some memories from the tribute you have, but nothing that you are worried about being protected or copied. Sorry I can't do more for you than that. :(

Appreciate that, admin.. If you want my whole Harry trib on this site maybe you could give it a thread of its own and lock that. It would be excellent if you could do that.

Check out this one:

2 weeks ago I broke the ole Harry shirt out and had three people ask me if it was Drew Carrey. Granted I live in the south but have people already forgotten??

I saw Harry sing "Take me Out to the Ballgame" at Fulton County stadium when the Cubs were visiting the Braves. I can't remember what year it was but it was the only time he ever sang at an away game. I think it was late
80's.

That sucks that people thought it was Drew Carrey.

Well I don't think people remember Harry like Cub fans. He was the #1 fan of the team, whatever was on his mind he said and like we all said at home. I just wish there was another one like him.

I agree ChiCubs. People are going to be pretty quick to forget him unless you're a die hard fan of the Cubs. Even some people who have only been fans in the last few years might not even know who you are talking about if you bring up Harry. It's a shame. I'm just glad I remember him and got a chance to see him for as long as I did. Simply the best. :D

I just loved watching the game and hearing Harry get drunker and drunker with each inning. Ill never forget his gruff chuckle when he would see a little kid do something little kid like. He was what baseball is all about. I miss him, if it wasn't for him I probably wouldnt pay so much attention to baseball now.
