Could JH be waiting to set his field of players before getting pitchers ?
Jim said that Soriano waited to see if they resigned ARam before he signed.
Maybe pitchers are like that too , waiting to see what players they have backing them up before they make a contract deal.
It is funny . I never thought of players being concerned with who the managment signed until , just recently , when I heard them speak about looking towards new player additions the same as we do.

It's an interesting thought. Wouldn't surprise me I guess. I mean, look at Clemens. If he wouldn't have that whole family clause thing that he was worried about, do you think he would keep going back to the Astros and their crappy offense? You haven't even seen any mediocre pitchers, let alone top-tier ones, sign with anybody yet, so I bet they do look at that stuff.

Heck, if I were a FA looking at the Cubs as a prospective club to join, I would want to be sure that a) the defense behind me is going to be solid and b) I'd have plenty of run support.

Well this just means we need to keep up the pace, get some more big names then hurry up and get the pitching we want. We shouldnt wait too long or someone else might take who we want.

Personally, I think we're going to end up with Gil Meche and Westbrook.. and honestly, I don't think that those two would be so bad.. Everyone's so high on Zito and Schmidt.. but I think that Meche still has some potential, and Westbrook has statistically almost matched Zito over the past 3 seasons..

I agree 100%, i am a big fan of westbrook, and meche would also do great in the national league. I think i would be ok pitching for the cubs with that offense, I might have an era in the low 100's but thats ok.
