First, the Jones trade is squished, by either MLB or Hendry depending on who you talk to.

Now, Bruce Miles says that the Cubs intend to be buyers and can take on salary at the TDL.

Hendry isn't squashing the deals it's Selig. If that's the case then I don't know how we're going to be buyers unless we get cheaper contracts then what we give away.

Bruce Miles says it was Hendry that pulled the plug. He's pretty close to JH and the Cubs, alot closer than the sources that quoted Selig as the source.

If you think about it, it would be really hard to make any sort of deal if the JJ deal would have went through because the Cubs would still have JJ's salary to pay. Also, about the time of the possible JJ trade, there was quite a few players on other contenders getting hurt and those teams could possibly pick up JJ's salary, but it doesn't sound like any takers.
