View Full Version : Cubs are Cliff Floyd's first choice!

He says his first choice is to stay with the Cubs, but if we don't pursue him, he'll go somewhere else. I figure if he's interested, why not go for him? And he wants a deal like Thomas got last year, just 1 year to prove he can do good again. How much did the A's get Thomas for?

If he only wants Thomas money, you sure as hell better sign him! Thomas only made $500,000 last year. Even if he ends up a bench player for us (which he probably wouldn't be happy about), that is really cheap for what he could potentially give us. And if he doesn't pan out, no big deal. To be honest though, I would only want him if he's going to be a bench player.

I would love to see Cliff Floyd in a cubs jersey, especially if he was going to do so with a low contract.
Another left handed bat would be nice!

I have always like the type of player Floyd is, if we can get him for cheap do it. But if he wants 5 mil. No.

Where would Cliff Floyd play?
I am guessing a little RF?

HOLYCOW!25

I'd want him in right, and trade Jones for something. Or have him in left, move Murton to right, and still trade Jones for something, hopefully pitching.

Yes, I am thinking that if we picked up Floyd, trading Jones for an above average pitcher would be an excellent idea, and possibly even a package deal if that's what it took.

I like jones, i think we should keep him. But if it takes him to get pitching, let him go.

Yes, that is what I think.
But, I hope the cubs just dont settle for a mediocre pitcher.

DLee25

You should hope for an outstanding pitcher, we have enough of those mediocre guys.

yeah no kidding.

Amen to that, Brother.

Yea if we could get 1 outstanding pitcher I'm happy.

Well, Floyd would have to play in the corner outfield that Soriano doesn't occupy. I received a reply from Carrie Muskat to a question I posed to her about Soriano, and she said Lou told her Soriano would play either LF or RF, not CF.

If he stays healthy Floyd would be a monster left handed hitter at Wrigley. If it's only for 500,000, I'd say get him.

i much rather have drew with a fairly good obp than floyd and we dont need the guy hitting 30 homers just getting on base and spray the ball to all fields. i just
dont get why some people dont care if we have no left handed bats in the line up. i would take 20 homers obp of 400 and 30 doubles from drew than 30 homers
from floyd. also they are both equally a risk.

But Drew's probably goin with the Angels, and he wants more money.

Yeah, but Floyd is going for less money. Drew is a risk, but an expensive risk. Floyd isn't going to command jack squat on the market, which makes him a very appetizing free agent.

No I think he will win MVP with the royals!! YEAH RIGHT!! Just love to make fun of Dustys Beer Buddy! Oh and the Blue man pic is from the show Arrested Development (best show of all time). Floyd or Drew in my eyes are both a risk and I agree that Drew will command more but I would be ok with floyd too as long as we keep Jones.

I rather have Jones and Murton playing full time than having Floyd playing anywhere full time.

That guy is brittle.

Right now Im guessing Jones is going to be our CF?? I remember seeing him back in the day making some great plays in RF for the twins.

What about Sorianos in center with his powerfull arm?

RF is a total different position that CF. CF you have to cover a ton of ground. I don't think Jones can do that. So he is not gonna be our CF. I think we will find someone. But I disagree with the part about trading him. i don't get why people want to, maybe because of his SO's. He has a great arm Neifi, but its very innaccurate.

Everyone is reporting that Soriano is playing a corner spot so unless somebody gets traded *which I hope doesnt happen*, either Murton or Jones has to patrol CF.

Murton maybe?? What other options would we have?? Lugo?

You can't say where Soriano is gonna play, it's not official, if the cubs havnt said it dont believe it
Murton is not gonna be able to play CF, not enough range.

We could go after Lugo, and then move him to SS next year?

Soriano already said he wants to play one of the corners. Murton is not fast enough, and I don't think Jones is either. We could try Angel Pagan maybe?

NeifiPerezMVP2007
Nov 22nd 2006, 9:37 pm
Pagan is not a bad idea if he can improve at the plate. I like the idea alot it would give us more speed and a switch hitter.

we should keep jones and platoon Floyd and Murton in left with soriano roaming center

I like your idea of platooning Murt and Floyd. I'm just not convinced that Murton is the real deal yet.

NeifiPerezMVP2007
Nov 22nd 2006, 10:37 pm
Murton is ready, I just think he needs to hit gor more power but 06 was more than I expected. I think Dusty held him back by not playing him everyday mid-season. Lou will sort the team out!

Lol when I read your name, I laughed.
Not in a bad way, but it was unexpected.
haha...but yeah,
Floyd > Drew.
Floyd will settle for less and has more power.

lmao Im on NyQuil right now and evrything is funny. im going to sleep and dream about neifi hiting a walk-off grandslam in game 7 of the series for the cubs and triping on first and knocking over pujols and ending his career!!!!! just kidding

Zamby38
Nov 22nd 2006, 11:11 pm
haha.
well ending pujols career wouldnt be a bad idea.
unless, he was in a cubs uniform.
which will be the day I literally piss a brick.
