They need to lock up zambrano early, and then go to the market. he wants to stay (i hope) so we need to give he what he wants which is 6 yr. 80 million and move on. he deserves it

You are right.
We definitley cannot lose the workhorse.
then A) I would have to change my name
and B) Cubs pitching would be destroyed.
He is the emotional leader on this team.
We need him to build around.

I don't think they should do it just now, but definetly sign him an extention before the season starts.

Imagine that if in 2003 someone said to you that Z would be the top cubs starter for the next 4 years. The current market would give him at least 18 million per year considering he is very durable, throws lots of innings and throws hard. So he is the single most important player for us and should be locked up for whatever he wants, within reason that is. He is one of the top MLB starters.

Definitely. Let's make sure that he is taken care of. The last thing we want is for Z to get upset about all the money the Cubs are tossing around and none of it is coming his way. Z needs to stay a Cub for a long time. Heck, bat him 7th - he's got some pop in his bat too.

I agree that we need to extend him. I hate to see him get upset about all the money but as I have said before, when you sign multi-year contracts, it should not matter what someone else gets 2 years down the road. that being said, let him know your plans and then fill the team and then extend him.
