this is one I hadn't heard up until now.... on baseball tonight they were just saying that the cubs were talking to the orioles for Jay Payton to play centerfield????? He is batting .270, but why do we need another outfielder? Jones has earned his place back in my heart with his defense in the past week. He has become more comfortable after Lou told him the position was his, now his bat is starting to warm up. I don't know what it would cost us, as they didn't say anything about that.... unless he will be on the bench, perhaps.... but I think we need a long man in the bullpen more than we need another outfielder.

He can be used against the lefties....but I'm with you on another 'pen arm...I'd like to see another lefty.

I just heard the report as well. Hes 34 yrs old making about 4.5 mill per yr through next season. I am completely baffled by this. He has 4 HRs and 37 rbi. After I heard Buster Olny say that I ran to the computer to check his stats. I was expecting .310 10 hrs or something like that- not close- this does not make sense.

Unless there is another bigger trade on the horizon...but the only thing I can think of that would help this make any sense would be if it involved Jones. Unless, again, Payton would be on the bench and then Murton would probably be involved.

I really think Griffey wants to come here by that article you posted. I wish so bad they could make it happen. As far as the bullpen goes
Wuertz, Marmol, Demps are all staying put I would say
Wood will take Cherry's spot.
the other 3 eyre, ohman, howry - I think we can become sellers to a certain extent with one if not 2 of these
Rapada can do just as well and probably better than either Eyre or Ohman. Howry makes big money but he does do a pretty good job

Any word on how Guzman is doing? That could be the answer to your Glendon Rusch theory which I might add is a very good theory.

Murton is as good as Payton as a hitter if not better. Defensively though he is not.

there really hasn't been any word on Guzman...which makes me think the Cubs are writing him off this season. They have been too quiet about Guzman (kinda like they were with Prior...don't say anything, and maybe they will forget about him type thing)

Anyone seen the Laird/Mahay rumors? I'd be down for that as well as getting Griffey..as long as it doesnt involve Hill or Marshall. We dont need Payton with Pagan on the team.

Saw that on chicagosports.com. another catcher? We need another catcher like we need another outfielder or secondbaseman. Although, I do like Laird's defensive stats!

The Rangers do have a lefty named CJ Wilson I wouldnt mind having. The REds brought in a lefty tonight that made Font look absolutely sick- Cunilingas or something. He was nasty.

Coutlangas is his name- his numbers are decent- he walks a ton of people though.
