Jacque Jones-OF-Cubs Nov. 24 - 11:06 pm et
The Cubs are reportedly trying to interest other teams in Jacque Jones, who is owed $11.67 million over the next two years.
Jones shouldn't have a lot of trade value when free agents like Trot Nixon and David Dellucci can be had for similar money. If the Cubs trade Jones, they could go after Julio Lugo or J.D. Drew to play center and shift Alfonso Soriano to right.

interesting. I don't mind his bat but I would like to have a scenario where Murton played everyday. In order for that to happen, I think jones has to be traded.

i think that while jones was one of our better sluggers last year, we dont need him that much. if we can trade for a Cf or SP then do it. but similarly murton could go too.
nobody is talking about pagan or bucky coats for cf, lol....

The only thing I'd miss about Jones would be his bat..........especially because he's a lefty. However, if he does get traded I know there's going to be a lot of happy earthworms in RF at Wrigley. He won't be there to pound the ball into them anymore.

lol Id also like to see Murton playing. You mentioned Pagan, I think that he could end up being a really good player. I dont know about everyday yet, but he will be good.

I think Jacque puts up good numbers and for the amount we're paying him is a good player. Just wish he had a better eye at the plate and didn't strikeout so much, and obviously wish he could get that throwing crap figured out in RF because he does have a good arm. Whatever happens with him though, Murton needs to stay and be playing every day. I think it would come back to haunt us and end up being one of the worst moves we ever make it we get rid of him. The kid just had his first full year in the bigs. Give him so time and he will be the player everyone wants him to be. ;)

I agree with everything you said about Matt Murton..............JJ on the other hand.....that's another debate. He may have HAD a good arm but now he knows how to introduce the baseball to right field grass very well at Wrigley.
I hope he figures something out because his LH bat is a definite plus. The man can hit for the Cubs...........at least he can after May. :)

I say we keep him.If Matthews Jr. got 50 mil then JJ could surley get that.He doesn't hurt us out there but if we can get a big bopper then let him go.

I think he will hit better this year with less pressure on him to come through with the big hit. If he stays, he will put up good #'s. if we can get a good SP via the trade, then I think we should go that route.

I think Drew is not coming here and costs a lot. Compare JJ's numbers to Drews. JJ had less walks but had a overall better year. Oh yeah and how many left handed hitter will we if he goes?? None, and we will get shut down by really good right handers. Cesar Izturis is a switch hitter thats not much of a power threat and we haven't picked up Floyd yet. So I ask everyone, Who will be our left handed bat/bats?

I wouldn't mind keeping JJ but if he goes I sure as heck won't miss his errant throws to the infield...

As I said before, i have no problem keeping him. i'm not sure what we have to offer in a trade for a starting pitcher though. I agree, we do need a decent lefthanded bat in the lineup. I guess we will have to wait until the winter meeting to see how this plays out.

I think we need to address the pitching now.

The only reason I would like to see Jones go is if we can get quality starting pitching for him. Neifi is right, there aren't many fa left handed bats out there and drew isnt much of an upgrade if any. If jj can figure out how to hit an inside curveball (or lay off all together) he'll be just fine. He is a few minor adjustments away from being a very good player.

Rotate these two guys against LH and RH pitchers and you have a 30-35 HR, 100 RBI .300+ hitter.

I read something yesterday where Hendry said that Murton is not going anyplace and is going to have lots of playing time. :D :D
