So I went on the ESPN website and they're talking about weather or not Mark McGuire should be voted into thr Hall of Fame. Now my oppinions is that he shouldn't. It's obvious that he used steriods, but the unfortunate thing is that unless he admits to it, it wont be proven that he used them.
I say screw McGuire, and finally vote Ron Santo in the Hall of Fame!

I do agree that McGwire shouldn't be in the Hall, but then where do you stop? Who's to say that many great ballplayers from the past didn't do them and we just don't know about it? That to me is the big problem with not letting these guys in. I would say the best solution is to just go by the numbers and put them in (including getting Santo and Rose in there!! :D :D ), and from this point on work on doing the best job you can to keep the game clean so we don't have to always question these guys. Just because you put people in the Hall doesn't mean people won't still look at them differently, and they deserve to have that cloud next to there name forever.

Steroids aside (what he did admit to using was completely legal at the time), but aside from HR's, nothing he did was all that impressive. His average was terrible by HOF standard, he was an average fielder at best, and he couldn't stay healthy (steroids tnd to do that).
I never liked him so maybe I'm just biased...

He was a Cardinal, I think that makes us all biased against him, lol.

clearly mcgwire shouldnt be in the hall. while he hit 583 home runs, he only had 1626 total hits in his career. he also only hit .263. the steroid scandal in my mind doesn't matter in this case. his career stats speak for themselves. i dont know why he should be in but andre dawson isn't. andre had more career hits, rbis, and a higher career average. that is not to mention he was a better fielder. so anyone making a case for mcgwire needs to make a case for dawson too. :D

I agree, the Hawk needs to be in there. Is there something against the Cubs? I mean, Santo isn't in there either. It's ridiculous.

Yeah the Cubs tend to get overlooked in many categories such as HOF. It seems to be the same song and dance as to what we always hear about the Cubs and all we hear is that they havn't won a World Series in a Century and the only thing they have going for them is they have loyal fans. But lets hope Hendry keeps playing his card and then that will all end. Then we will just have to deal with the past tense trash talk.

The thing with Santo is the HoF already has three Cubs from the 1960s that had the disasterous final month of 1969, and some HoF voters and some from the Veterans' Committee think since the Cubs didn't win anything in that era, they don't deserve a fourth. However, Santo's numbers and the fact he played with Type I diabetes should put him in. Now, with Dawson, you'd have to look at his whole career with Montreal, Chicago and Florida, not just as a Cub. His total career might put him in, especially with the fact he won the 1987 MVP while the Cubs were in last place.

Exactly. Players like Dawson, Hernandez, Murphy, & Gossage should be in before McG. Unfortunately I do think he will eventually get voted in, based on his HR & RBI's, which is a complete bastardization of the HOF. I don't see him getting in first ballot with Ripken & Gwynn...
Note to Bud Selig- Let Rose in the HOF. He's one of the greatest hitters of all time, and his gambling wasnot during his playing days. Just because the guy's a complete scumbag doesn't mean he shouldn.t be allowed in. If that's the case, lets start revoking some guys. I say we start with Cobb & Mantle...

Hopefully, that'll be Selig's last act when he steps down in 2009, to grant Rose a "pardon." What the HoF voters and MLB executives need to realize it's what a player does between the lines is what determines his worthiness for the hall, not what he's done after his playing days were done. McGwire, Bonds and Palmiero, as good of players they were statistically, either had major questionmarks or were proven to have done steroids, which enhanced their stats. Wheras Rose was as clean as they come in his game, never bet on the game when he was a player, and his 4,200-plus hits should put him in Cooperstown. It's just a vendetta by Giamatti and Co. that put Rose in his current position.

I completely agree, vanman. Not having the all-time hits leader in the HOF is just absurd.

Dawson Rose and Santo should all be in before Mac even if we forget about the juice. BTW when will the cubs retire #8? The foul poles are too unbalanced.

My Pick's for hall of fame is:
1. Pete Rose: yeah he gambled so what its not like made the Reds win or lose, I never seen him do anything else than give his all.
2. Ron Santo: Goes without saying. With Banks,Williams and Jenkins in there it seems only apporiate 1969 wasn't all his fault either.
3: Andre Dawson: Didnt see him whine in 1987,hell he just gave the Cubs a blank contract and said here fill it in, I am playing ball! gotta love that character!
