Z & Schmidt would be one of the best 1-2 punches in the NL. Hopefully it'll make him ponder leaving the west coast...

I know rotoworld was saying that Schmidt's agent told the Yankees he won't got to the East Coast, but how about the MidWest?

Good Stuff!

That would be so great! Then all he needs to do is trade for Manny!! Then we would have the best hitting team in baseball. I really hope we sign Schmidt.:)

I, for one, think that Schmidt isn't worth the money. He's definately dropped off the last couple years including dropping 4-5 mph on his fastball. I would rather spend 15 Mil on gettting Meche and Lilly and sewing up 2 spots in the rotation. A trade for either Westbrook or Jennings would be a blessing too but I fear we would lose Murton who I think has a ton of potential.

Schimdt is still a dominant pitcher, and I'd take him over Lilly and Meche any day of the week. Neither of them has dne anything remotely impressive. Padilla I like...

From what I read, Westbrook isn't being traded, but everyone has a price...

Also consider Schmidt being part of a 2 way trade deal. Jim sometimes will pull stuff like that. I bet he is a good chess player.

If not Schmidt would be schwell wit me ;)

I think the lineup is more impressive, pitching staff is still iffy, if the Cubs land Schmidt or whomever great!. I am soo glad we have guys on the team that want to be here like Lee, ARam, Soriano, hell even Kerry Wood. It makes a difference when you take pride in a team and want to win the World Series! because at no time did I hear "we just want to have a good season" all I have been hearing is "we want to win the World Series" from John McDounah (sp) all the way down the line. So maybe and hopefully the lovable loser tag will forever be gone!! (personally I am sick of that saying).

I'm concerned about his injury record.Hasn't he been hurt like every year for the past 5 years or something like that?

Yes he has had some minor injuries but he did pitch over 200 innings last year.

Well with our track record with Wood and Prior I say we steer clear of any hint of a guy with a history of injuries.

The one thing about Schmidt is he's thrown a ton of pitches, especially when Dusty was his manager. Dusty likes to abuse pitchers...

Apparently the Cubs are denying that they made this offer to Schmidt.

I think were flirting with disaster here.He sounds like an injury waiting to happen taken his age and how many pitches hes thrown.

Steve Stone said that the offer was bs . no such thing happened . just an agent bargaining trick.

Steve Stone is so anti-cub. Just hearing what he said about Soriano's signing made me very angry! In short, I HATE STEVE STONE!!!!!!!!!!!   :mad

I read where the Cubs said SI's report wasn't true, so all Steve Stone really did was read the newspaper... Way to get the inside scoop Steve... I like that guy, I find bitterness to be amusing...

Using a fake offer would only be a good bargining chip if it was to scare off other teams. The Cubs are in a good spot to get Schmidt, if he loses his hardon for the West Coast. His options are limited. Seattle wants him (and their probably his first choice), but Seattle won't pony up the money he wants. LA has interest, but from what I read they are looking at bringing Maddux bqack. Oakland isn't going to pay him, he's not going back to SF. It leaves the Padres... If the offer scared them some, good for us. If you look at the Midwest, watch out, for the Cards, they need pitching just like us... I think we can trump them.

There is a slight risk with Schmidt, but he's the best option out there. Westbrook MIGHT be dealt, but Shapiro pulling the "untouchable card", it a nice way of saying "be ready to give us the ranch", and while he's good, he's not that good. Zito is a scary option. He's a needy pitcher who needs to be coddled by a pitching coach. Unless he ends up in Baltimore, St. Louis or the Mess, he could have some problems. Meche at least to me is underproven and overrated, and will benefit with a thin starting pitchng FA class. Same with Ted Lilly. The guy is average... There's nothing special about a .500 pitcher who was a middle reliever most of his career. Padilla is talented, but hears voices or something because he's a mental basketcase (I do like him. He and Barrett would be a real 1-2 punch).

If we bring Schmidt and someone like Meche, that's not too bad, but brining in two guys like Lilly? I'd rather rely on two Marshalls...

I'm definately in favor of schmidt, however I do wonder about the closer role. demp blew what , 11 or 12 games last year. If he would have done his job we would have won 74, maybe 75 games last year. I can accept a few blown saves over the course of the year but good lord. I suppose that could have been attributed to lack of consistant work, but if he's a closer he has to go in and be dominant when he takes the ball. Several of the games he did save were nail biters. If we didnt have a 3 run lead with demp on the mound it was almost guaranteed we would lose. Effective closers dont walk the first batter they see.

well.. we didn't lose every game he blew.. but I agree.. he's gotta get his act together this year. but if you remember back to a couple years ago.. he never had an easy save then either.. every game was a freaking nail biter.

If Dusty would have had him pitching middle relief when he lost his confidence he would have come back but no Dusty said Dempster is my closer and that is all. I am hopeing that Lou will have better luck with him.

If Demp can't do it, I think they should see what Wood can do in ST. It worked for Smoltz, why not give it a shot...

I agree with Wood, but again, there is a big "if" attached to him. He clearly has the stuff to be a closer. We don't know if he can pitch back to back to back games yet. "If" he can, you may as well "crown them"

I love Dennis Green. They are who we thought they are

Think you forgot to mention that we all took the field. Just wondering but did you smack the side of your podium when you said that? lol

That was one of the better rants. Not like elia's famous rant, but still a crowd pleaser. He's out of a job next year anyways.

I like 5 miles from work, but it got cancelled because of weather conditions. I'm sitting in my underpants on the internet while drinking a beer. Could it get any better than this?

Congrats on the day of, shwerve. I think more people on here are just busy during the day (school, work, etc.) instead of being out of town, but you may be right a bit. If you have some free time today, enjoy that beer and try to spread the word about fogpog. The more people on here to chat with, the better for everyone. Have a good one! :)

work/school for shizzle. I would not be here if I was working (although I would be looking up trade/signing rumors). Just a side note observation about the out of towners. Love is being spread as we speak.
