Floyd was able to smile at one thing after watching some of the Cubs' games on television.

''You turn into a fan,'' he said. ''You can see why the fans react the way they do.''

He noted how often the cameras pan the dugout for manager Lou Piniella's reactions.

''It's pretty hilarious how much they show him,'' he said.

This really made me wonder....outside of during a game in which the Cubs are playing in, have many of the player actually sat and watched a Cubs game, or even more, a series, away from Wrigley Field while they are playing, and watched it from out standpoint???? Sure. they watch videos of the games, but it is to pick out and study certain aspects. Have they ever just sat and enjoyed a Cubs game "as a fan"?

This is their job. They do it day in and day out. Now, put yourselves in that perspective. We do our jobs day in and day out. We see the "inside" stuff about our lines of work. We don't play for a major league baseball team and have thousands of people watching us everyday, but in most cases, there are people who may find your job interesting because they don't do it day in and day out. I work in a restaurant, and it amazes me of how many groups want to take tours of "behind the scenes". Even when I eat out, I tend to watch the workers and the restaurant and pick out the things I look for in my crew at work. It's hard to just sit and focus on a meal.

Look at Lou. When he was suspended, he got a chance to see the team from a different view...and boy did things turn around quick. Dee Lee said the same thing when he was gone most of last year. I don't know how they could go about doing it, but I think it would be a great idea for each of those players to sit and watch a Cubs game, as a fan. (I'm also still all for having the players take a mini-Cubs-history course when they sign with the team so they know exactly why we have such passion for the team.) I had a post in the offseason about it. Have Billy Williams, Ernie Banks, and Ron Santo, perhaps even Sandberg, lead the course that will lead them all the way back to Weeghaman Park....the 1908 World Series... the 1945 World Series...
the '69 '84, '89, '93 Cubs, the black cat, the goat, Bartman...and for Heaven's Sake make sure they know the song is Go Cubs Go and NOT Go Cubs Win! This franchise has such a deep history, all of which fuels our deep passion for the team. If a player...or coach/manager...doesn't really have a clue about it, they aren't going to understand our emotions. Most of the players grew up hearing about the Cubs, and many of the players weren't around for many of the early years history, so they are probably not even aware of the many rollercoaster rides we as fans have been on. If the fans are considered the 10th man on the team, we need the players to be on the same page as us. We aren't in it for the paychecks, bonuses, or World Series rings (although, that would be nice), we are here to finally be able to say, WE WERE HERE FOR THE FIRST WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP IN NEARLY 100 YEARS...We rode the storm out. We stuck it out for all of the beloved fans who waited their entire lifetimes and never had the chance to celebrate on the streets of Waveland and Sheffield....

Okay, sorry about the rant. I guess it just really made me realize how differently we view the team and game from how the players see it. If they could see it through our eyes, they may understand a little more of why we are so critical of their every little move on the field.
