Well, the cynic in me says this offer may be intentional, he's a free agent next year and $51m was over the odds. Were the Sox just obstructing the Yankees?

Interesting thought, but I don't think they bid that high to keep him away from the Yanks. $15mil/yr for the guy is just crazy when he has never pitched over here before. I think the Sox offer was a little low, but I think it's just Boras thinking he can get about whatever he wants because his name is Boras. :rolleyes: I'm glad to see the Sox aren't giving in to him.

True, but I think if the Red Sox don't sign him, it'll go down, in my oppinion, as the worst 50 million ever spent. I mean, why spend 50 million and not end up signing the guy? Seriously, if they're got that much money, whats another 15?

Well, they actually get that $50 million back if they don't sign him, so I don't see why they should give in to Boras' demands, especially since they could then use that money to sign other FA pitchers that are out there and that have at least some experience pitching here. I understand where you're coming from though.

That's what I think. Epstein's not stupid, and I think it was a ploy to block him. See Boras has the upper hand though. The RSox want JD Drew, wh is also repped by Boras.
