I hope I'm putting this in the right forum, but if not, my apologies.

Anyway, I'll be moving to Chicago next fall, so I'll be making a few trips out over the spring and summer, to check the city out, look at apartments, interview, etc., but of course I'm going to wanna catch some Cubs games when I'm in town. How hard is it to get tickets? Hw wife used o work for Fox, and knows people at WGN, where she said she can probably get some, but if I want to buy them in advance, how fast do the sell out.

Also (for when I do live in Chicago), what type of ticket packages do they have? I'm on the waiting list for season tickets, but unless a bunch of people die or just give them up, it's not happening. Any info would be teriffic.

I really haven't had much trouble getting tickets. However; you may want to get there early when the box office opens I think 10 AM. I usually spend the day there. I get around Wrigley about 9 find a parking spot because its a nightmare, get tickets, and have some thing to eat either at Cubbie Bear or McDonalds, get to the gate about 11 watch batting practice etc. Also good luck with the season tickets, I been in line since 1992...lol

I always purchase my tickets the day they go on sale. I would highly recomend spending at least one game in the bleachers, that i the place to be at Wrigley. I could almost guarantee if you get bleacher seats you will not ever want to sit anywhere else.

It really depends on how well they are doing. There was a major dropoff last year and they were practically giving them away after the break.

Are they doing the bracelet thing again this year? Every time I get one my number is so far off I wind up spending the day on the internet getting tickets. My boss is a cubs fan so it works out, however ALL my co-workers are sox fans so I have to put up with their bitching about how im not doing anythin but sitting in virtual waiting rooms. Which reminds me, I need to up my credit limit!

get online when tickets go on sale if you can. Virtual waiting rooms are key. During the year, you should be good if you go to the park early. A lot of times they re-release tickets- not sure why/how, but it works. Got some tickets the day of Mother's day last year. Craigslist works. Get alot of friends. Get a job where vendors take you out- lawyers and business men love taking clients to Cub games.

If none of this works, travel. I plan at least two baseball trips per year- I suppose this doesn't really help your original dilema/question though.

Havn't been to too many games, but if you can avoid driving there, then do it, because parking is terrible. I think the L is a great way to get there. I use it every times I go to a game.

the L was awesome.. I stayed at a hotel in downtown.. took the redline to wrigley.. and it was lovely. parking there is hell though.. they also have a bus that runs from a college up there, and for like.. ten dollars they'll take you there and back on the weekends and night games, I think.

Driving is still an option if you go to weekday games. You don't need a parking permit for most any street in the area. I believe restrictions are that you need a pass from 6pm to 6am. There are no parking restrictions on Ashland at all that I am aware of.

And if you're old enough and plan on kicking back a few lukewarm old styles, obviously the train is the right way to go as well.

Yea I don't drink at Cubs games either. But I think that mostly has to do with the fact that I risk the possibilty of being cuffed if i ask for a beer.

haha.. awesome underage drinking story (note, I honestly didn't drink until I was 21 and don't endorse it). I was at this local baseball game (sadly, a team in the cards franchise.) and got carded by the cop inside the gates. I'm 5'11 170, skinny with dark, longer hair.. no facial hair at the time. My buddy Todd was 20, almost 21.. he's 190, 5'9 or so.. he took my id, goes back to the same cop, hands my id to him, and smiles. The cop looks at him, looks at my ID, then says.. "huh.. doesn't look anything like you." then puts the wristband on him.. hahaha.. good stuff..

i try not to drink too much at the games either, for the obvious cost reason, and also b/c i hate having to piss every inning. On top of that i lack attention span when im boozing and lose whats going on.

some games, thats not such a bad thing. I have to admit, at local games, I drink a little TOO much, sometimes..

I get drunk before and after the game. The ushers are cool about it (as long as your not acting like a jerk). I was at the Brewers Cubs game and there were some Brewers fans cheering and some really dumb Cubs fan threw half a beer at them and got kicked out. That kinda Cubs fan makes us look bad. Was funny though. Anyone at that game it was on April 29 and Rush was pitching and he got killed with like 7 homers. Even Jenkins hit a hommer!!! When he hits one you know the pitcher sucks.

I was actually at the game the day before that. I remember, they switched the schedule like 3 days before my game so that Rusch pitched at the game you were at, and not the one I was at, and instead I got to see Maddux go 5-0. Also, at my game the weather was real nice, and the next day it was really sucky. I'm so glad I went the day before you, sorry, but you got hosed.

Thanks for all the input. Good stuff... I've heard good things about the El. I'm used to mass transit (NYC Subways), so it's good to know. When we move, the area we're looking at are pretty much in walking distance (Lakeview, Wrigleyville, Lincoln Park), so it'll be nice to walk to the game (I never had that luxury).

The wife to be used to go regularly, and I belive she Wrigley the worlds biggest cocktail party, or something to that effect. I'm looking foward to it!

Me and my buddy got tickets to 3 games in 2001. The dates were Sept 10th, 11th, and the 12th. We only got to see the game on the 10th and the rest were canceled cause of Sept 11th. They told us that we could use those tickets during a 10 year time period. We haven't gone back yet. We had to drive 7 hours to get to Chicago because of where we live. I wonder what they would say if we tried to use them at a sold out game.

I would imagine that they treat them the same as rainout tickets, you have to return those tickets to the box office and pick another game that they have seats available for to keep that from happening.

Yeah Maddux should have pitched on the 29 but they changed it and I was so mad. God Rusch pitched like crap that day, then it started to rain after the 7th right when we left. It was the worst game at Wrigley I've been to in years.

I still wonder if Maddux would of gone 5-0 if they hadn't switched. Kinda wierd.
