Despite a fine overall record this season, Ted Lilly will be looking to get past a couple of rough recent outing on Saturday night against the D-backs at Chase Field.
Lilly posted a 5-1 record and a 2.52 ERA in six starts in July and started this month with two more quality starts. However, he was hit hard in a no-decision on Aug. 15 against the Reds, allowing six runs in five innings of work, and then allowed five runs in six innings against St. Louis in his last start, taking the loss.

The southpaw has some interesting splits this season. He's 6-1, with a 3.76 ERA on the road which is a good sign, but his ERA of 4.74 for 14 night starts is far higher than his 3.05 mark in 12 day games.

Lilly will be opposed by Arizona's Doug Davis, who lasted just two innings in his previous start and will be looking for his own rebound performance.

Fellow fogpogger, Aramfan, is there again tonight and will give a full report when she gets back! We are now at the time where not only does every game count, but pretty much every pitch. Scoreboard watching has filtered into the dugout. Both the Cubs and Dbacks are first place teams fighting for a spot in the post season.

Other games, the Cardinals right now are 4 games back. They currently are losing 2-0 in the top of the third inning. The Brewers and Giants start in about an hour. Oh, and the Bears just went up 7-0!

Why in the freakin world didn't Piniella pinch hit Blanco, a righty, for either jockstrap or Lilly in the 7th? Neither of them can hit a lefty worth a darn, and we had the tying run in scoring position? I realize that would leave us in a somewhat vulnerable position if Kendall got hurt, but come on....we need every game!@!@

And there goes the old ballgame...Wood gives up a run-scoring double to Upton. As I feared (and have posted on this board), Wood just doesn't have it anymore. Darn good thing Milw lost tonight.

Wood was consistently in the mid to upper 90's...throwing strikes... good location. Wood doesn't have it???? What is it you are looking for? I don't ever remember Wood throwing a perfect game!
