Yeah I know he is playing better,BUT this guy chokes in most clutch situations. Most of his hits are beat into the ground and find a hole. This guys a loser and his last at bat lost the game AGAIN.

well i agree he does gidp alot... or groundballs right to second baseman... but you can't say hes at fault for this game... he just made the lst miistake...not goign for the double steal for the third time in a row woudl have kept kendall from striking out becuz he doesnt swing at bad pitches... then we woulda had bases loaded with no outs for jones... but yes jones is definalty in a slump when he is pulling everything on the ground...

I wouldn't be that rough on the assessment. Jones loves to hit down for some reason and the DP do follow. I don't know how many times he's grouneded into double plays this season but it wouldn't surprise me if he was in the top 10% of the league. But with that being said, he hits those same balls in the gaps when other batters would have put more lift on them and flied out.

I hate to say it, but Lee has been doing a lot of the same lately and striking out.

I don't particularly care for Strap either. But the whole team sucks right now as far as hitting is concerned.

Remember that STL game on Sunday night baseball early last season when Barrett hit a GS and Jones hit a long 2 or 3 run shot to deep center? I like Jones (If he can carry this streak into October :) )

I agree, he sucks.

Too streaky... more bad than good. I wish he would of went back to Minnesota b4 the deadline, like was rumored. -- We have too many outfielders.

Here's an audio clip of it! (I hope it works, I just found this site!) (http://www.bestsharing.com/files/zLQRgQt327675/4-9-06%20jones%201st%203%20run%20homer_%20barrett%20gr and%20slam.mp3.html)

I dont know how you can say his last AB cost us the game. He was robbed of a base hit, not to mention his previous AB where he was robbed of a triple. He also saved a run with his great catch in CF. If it was not for his offense the last 6 weeks we would not be in first plACE.

he has definatly been a spark plug for a bit... but he is cooling off alot... his bad streaks outlast his good streaks... he plays the same on defesnse...

i remember last year at one point he was 0-52 when he had two strikes on him...

hes a good guy to have on a team and he clearly shows to try... even on the grounders directly to the second baseman he attempts to run them out

It takes 25...wait, 26, men to make up this team...every single one of them plays an important part, and Jones may ground into a lot of double plays, but when it comes to coming through in the clutch lately, he is kicking the rest of the teams butts in that category!

I couldn't agree more Ryno. First half of the season Jones was horrible. Second half is a different story he has came through in huge spots with the bat and the leather. I can't imagine where we would be right now without his production lately.

It's amazing how Cub fans change our tunes when a struggling player gets on a hot streak.

There has only been one player on this team I really really didn't like, and that was Ohman. I didn't like the way he reacted to his screw ups, I didn't feel comfortable at all even seeing him warm up. I've been frustrated with Jones, but never disliked him. I'm frustrated with Lee and Ramirez right now, but it doesn't mean I don't like them and want them off the team. Jones has had his struggles with the fans from day one, but he came in during a really rough time for the Cubs when the fans were looking for someone, anyone, to save us from any further pain...they were looking for a Sammy Sosa type guy and when Jones didn't live up to those expectations (nor should he, as he isn't like Sammy), Jones was the new "scapegoat". The fact that he came out publically about the fans, it just made him more of a target. Same thing happened to LaTroy Hawkins. He was put in a situation to where he was expected to do and be something he was not, and when he failed, he became the "bad guy on the team". Remember the hot prospect, Corey Patterson? Same thing!

We have to remember, Neifi, that part of the beauty of this site is that everyone has a right to their own opinions, even if we don't agree with them all. There are still a lot of people out there who don't like Jones, and that may never change, even if the guy hits a game winning home run in game 7 of the World Series!

no doubt he came in during a rough time but he is a professional... he still couldnt run the bases or throw the ball (not hitting cutoff or throwing directly into the ground) those things are fundamentals that should glue to your brain... not saying he hasn't gotten better, but even if you can't hit the ball there isn't a reason you can't do those things... im not taking anyhting away from Jones he has definatly been carrying alot of weight on his shoulders lately while the "strong" part of our lineup is failing to come up with bit hits... but i still don't enjoy watching him... he works hard and its showing here in the second half but he is overrated and definatly not someone im comfortbale with when he comes to the plate... as long as he isnt anywhere near the top of our order than he is fine becuz even at the back end he does show flashes of brilliance

Okay I laid off because of his performance Tueday night but last night he choked again.Yeah I know everyone is choking right now but this guy is all or nothing and the nothings add up to more than the alls.He should be platooned at best.I would rather see Pie get the shot since hes the future. We have to many of the same type of players like Jones,Murton and now Monroe who is Jones twin.

Okay, JJ has been bad at times this year and good at other times, but how did he choke last night.

2-3 with a walk and the time he got out he moved a runner up- he is the only guy on the team last night with 2 hits- how is that choking

He didn't hit a 6 run homer to win the ballgame, that's how he choked. Haven't you figured it out by now. If the Cubs lose, it has to be Jones' fault. That makes 64 times this year that he has caused the Cubs to lose.

If there ever was a "perfect post", that was it! I love the non-sense Jones bashing fools. Yeah, Jones is not a great player but I'd rather have him than Murton, or Pagan. Anyone who thinks Jones is the problem at this point should just have someone hit them on the head with a ball-peen hammer so they forget all about baseball because they are setting the sport backwards. Just study the stats and the clutch hits Jones has had since the ASB.

CAN A MOD PLEASE DELETE THIS THREAD? REALLY, PLEASE!!!

Well here is how I see it. No matter what Jones does he will not be worth a damn in this guys mind. Some people always feel the need to try and point out the negative and very rearly show their faces when the team is playing well. That is their style and I don't agree. Stick by them win, lose, or draw and show your faces no matter the circumstances. But we all have to remember at the start of the season the only threads this guy posted in were threads about Prior and Wood being bums. He made a point to show up when Prior and Wood both went back on the DL, to try and persuade people that he was right. But then less than a month ago he shows his face again and asks if anyone thinks its possible that Wood be moved to the starting rotation. So in the matter of 6 months Jones, Wood, and Prior have all been useless bums. The only one out of those three that has gained this guys confidence is a "bum" he never wanted to even give a roster spot to. I enjoy reading everyones ideas and thoughts on this board what aggrivates me the most are the ones that continuously bash and you never see them when the team is doing well, they have noting good to say. In closing, to those that choose to be negative try and show up and say something positive once in awhile and others on this board may take you seriously.
