I'm still having a hard time trying to swallow the fact the Cardinals have crawled their way back into the race! The good thing about it? WE HAVE OWNED THE CARDINALS!

Those games against the Cardinals will be huge. It's good that Soriano is back soon enough to get his swing back before the Cardinals series.

they are also playing the astros who have basically just waved the white flag by firing their manger and general manager... i don't expect them to give the cardinals any fits... so we have to have a very strong home stand here

On the flip side, we play the Astros over the weekend, so we have a shot at extending the lead over St. Louis, because I think they have a couple of tough series coming up before they face us in the make-up game Sept. 10 in Wrigley and then in the following four-game, three-day series in St. Louis. I think we'll be at least five games clear of the field by that time.

What worries me, however, is that the games we "should win on paper" are usually the ones we completely blow! The Cards are getting their starting pitching back in order, their bats are getting hot...and who knows! The beauty of baseball! It's almost getting a feel that we are in two races...the race in the division and the race against history!

Every game at this point needs to be won.
