Did every one else hear the collective gasping when DeeLee got hung up on the plexi-glass? And then had a crystal clear flashback to when he broke his wrist????? And then again when Rammy took that HUGE swing and almost fell over? MY KNEE hurt seeing him do that! Thank goodness they are okay!

I saw Ramy's swing, and it made my knee hurt too, but I didn't see what happened to Lee, so I have no idea what's going on there.

When DLee bent forward, I yelled "Nooooooooooooooooooo!"
Rammy didn't scare me, he does that sometimes.

Fielder hit a sky high pop up foul right by the plate.... the wind grabbed it...kendall and Lee were both giving chase...as the ball came down, Lee went to grab it and when he came down, he fell onto the plexiglass that guards the fans (that are on the gates to get onto the field.) right on his ribcage. It knocked the wind out of him. Lee came down, squatted on the field grabbing his ribs.

Like a sucker I had to just watch the Yahoo score updates on my computer. I was real nervous there in the ninth. Aren't we due for a blowout win (or preferable wins) soon?

Yup. Dempster makes it interesting to say the least. He got it done though.

I thought he broke his wrist for sure. Thank goodness he is alright. That would have taken the wind out of their sails for sure.

I still think this is a different team since June 3 than the team that took the field prior to June 2. And I don't mean personnel wise, because we've added and subtracted all season long. I mean in the style of play. I remember that debacle in Shea when Dempster gave up the 5-run lead to help the Mets win 6-5. Back in April and May, the Cubs were finding ways to lose, and then Mt. St. Lou erupted on June 2. That showed the guys that the manager is not going to accept too much losing, and that lit a fire in their bellies. We go from nearly 10 GB back then to 2 1/2 games ahead tonight. The Cubs are finding ways to WIN games, like multi-hit rallies a la the second inning or the back-to-backers by Murt and Fonzie in the 6th.

I do agree, Van, but I am still concerned that the lack of consistent offense may hurt us greatly down the road. Right now they are doing a great job of scoring when the take advantage of the other teams miscues and errors, but the offense still scares me quite a bit! The Long Ball was so nice to see tonight! Like a breath of fresh air!

When it comes playoff time, the winning team seems to always have the best pitching. So far, the Cubs have that in spades. Of the three teams contending for the NL Central crown, the Cubs have the most consistant pitching.

Having Dempster come in, in a save situation reminds me of the 89 version of Mitch Williams. Gets the job done most of the time, but always has to make it exciting.
Heather, I am waiting for the any of the Cubs big three hitters (Soriano, Lee, Ramirez) to get hot. It's crunch time, and we need some offense from all of them. Lately, the lower part of the order has been driving in most of the runs.
Eric, you are right about the Cubs starters being better than the teams that are chasing them. They need to get Zambrano and Lilly to come up big in September. I like the bullpen setup with Marmol in the setup role, with Howry in the 8th, and Dempster closing.
