View Full Version : Booing

Again I am frustrated over the booing of our fans at a particular player. Today it was Dempster, who had saved 13 straight, all be it sometimes shaky but still gets the job done. If you want to boo somebody boo the manager for todays game. I mean the wind is howling out and you give our best power hitter the day off. Dont tell me he needs a day either. He did not mind pinch hitting him in the 7th. If he needed a rest, he would have never used him at all. Boo him for not pinch hitting for Jones and Fontenot in the 8th vs. Biemel. Biemel is holding lefties to a .185 average. You still had Pie left on the bench to play CF, of course that was shown when he went in in the top of the ninth - only to have to lead off the bottom half- our second worst hitter. Monroe and Soto are still sitting there on the bench.

I mean lets take a look at the last inning that the fans booed Demps over. First of all , with a one run lead in the ninth usually teams guard the lines and protect against doubles. Martin led off the ninth with a singl down the line. The HR was a pop up that got up in the wind.

Daryle Ward should not sniff the starting lineup the rest of the year, especially in RF

Soto should be playing C more than Kendall or Blanco.

It's harder to boo the manager when he is in the dugout. Much easier to boo someone that taking the walk of shame back to the clubhouse after blowing the save.

Not to mention his name is Lou- so it would be hard to really know what the fans are doing. I dont fault Lou for bringing Demps in- that has been the recipe all year. It is just the rest of the game I haave a problem with.

not boo a guy who gets paid millions of dollars to pitch 1 inning?
this guy is responsible to hold leads or shut down teams late in the game.
If I went to work and told the boss not to fire me because I couldn't do my job every day what would happen to me????
out on my butt...
these poor fragile souls must get their heads out of their backsides and play the game like the world champions we so desperately seek...

Hmmm. He has blown 3 saves all year. Thats pretty darn good. Maybe if our offense could put up a few more runs a game this would not have happened. As for Dempster, I agree he is not a great closer but we have dealt with this for 3 years now. Blame the GM for not signing a better closer. Im nervous everytime in the ninth, it was just a matter of time before this happened and it did today.

this is the time of the year that the cream rises and the bad stuff sinks....
Only one to blame from now till October is the boys on the field and Lou.....
We as fans, have every right to expect these guys to win, win, win...
no excuse should be accepted...
maybe when the new owner shows up he/they will deal with the weaknesses but until then these guys have to put up or shut up.

Outside of Wagner, I can't think of too many FA closers that have been better than Dempster.

Well ,I think that one was on Lou,"Dumpster" gave up a few hits ,then the lefty Ethier came up,I would of countered with one of our lefties.but on the booing matter,I paid over $2000.00 for tickets this year and $4000 last year, been a Cub fan for 32 years,I have a right to boo anybody on that team if they can not perform like they are capable of .if it wasn't for the fans that dish out to dough ,there would be no Z,Sori,Lee and Ramy on this team,so thank the fans that spend and buy the tickets!

They deserve the boos for hanging us fans out to dry. I have been hanging on all year, just clinging to hope that we might have a chance this year. But poof, here comes the Cubs with their giant poison tip dart to burst our collective bubbles. And lets wait till the last couple days of the regular season to make it official. That way it will hurt even more.

OOOOOOuch!

I said it the other day, I don't care for the booing.... but I'm not going to tell someone they shouldn't or can't boo. I do have to say that it was pretty sad today.... I could hear Zambrano's words in my head "that the times we struggle is when we need the fans on our side the most"...and I couldn't help but think that the fans reactions added to the frustrations and pressures of the inning. Demp has been pretty solid. He hasn't blown a save since June 10th. He saved 13 straight...and has had pretty good stuff. The Cubs are 3rd in the least blown saves, behind the Cardinals, Dodgers, and are tied with the Mets.

I have to give Lou Kudos for getting Demp out of there and kept the game within reach, however, Demp may not be the one that needs the boos. Soriano was responisble for all of the runs today. Where is the offense? Why are they not getting booed off field? How many men have been left on base during that series?

Now, what really concerns me is that Demp will take that to the mound with him the next time he is sent out there. I don't think Marmol or Howry are 100% the answer, either. Marmol has good stuff...but has also had some control issues of late. Howry has his moments as well. We do not have a lights out..."oh my gosh, don't let us get to the ninth behind because we'll see so and so" type of guy. We have Demp...and it's not going to do any of us any good if the crowd totally shakes his confidence because of one bad outing that just happened to come at the most in-opportune time for his 3rd blown save of the season.

I personally wouldn't boo at a game, but i wouldn't tell anybody to stop booing if i felt the team was choking like a dog.

Alot of Cub fans are sick of waiting till next year. Patience is wearing thin. I am just mad they strung my arse out this year. There is still a chance they could play in the postseason. But come on, 3 games over .500 isn't very good. I am sick of mediocrity. If we miss the postseason i will have wished that they would have been 20 games under .500 at this point. At least then i could just enjoy the game with no worries if they blew the game in the 9th.

Usually at this time we get a lineup of AA and AAA players for our team and we are analyzing them to see if they would be able to help us sometime soon. I know we are only 3 games over, but to me I love playing meaningful games. Now it may give me a heart attack and I may blow my stack a few times, but I love being part of the race. No doubt, we could go on a run like the Cardinals and win the World Series- but even if we do this team still needs a lot of work.

This is so exciting! Yes, very stressful, be we as Cub fans aren't used to this feeling. It is such an amazing feeling.....

So...on that note...here's a couple of thoughts....

GOOD NEWS....we're still in first place
BAD NEWS.... only 24 (i think) games left in the regular season,

I don't know about any of you, but I am NOT ready for the Offseason Blues to hit.... I want this to go on. So, until the numbers prove me otherwise.... either 1st or not... I am going to believe...I am going to root for this team in good times and bad. That way, IF we do make it, I will feel good about the fact I truly backed them through thick and thin. It doesn't mean I am not going to get upset at things like Dempsters blown save, or Z's meltdown, but we fans play a HUGE part in this team. If they feel we have given up on them, and jumped off the ledge, it may have a big negative psychological effect on their play.

And, damnit...I WANT TO SEE ONE OF OUR GUYS THROW A NO NO THIS YEAR! I just had to put that in because in one of my preseason predictions on here this year was to see a cubs pitcher throw a no hitter! Marquis had the stuff today....Z has come close.

we could go on a run like the Cardinals and win the World Series- but even if we do this team still needs a lot of work.

That is this organization's biggest problem. With the exception of the 80s teams, no one has even attempted to build a long-term foundation for continued success. When the team has success like it did in 1998 and 2003, it seems it fools the front office into believing they have a formula for success, when in fact they are still far from being serious contenders on the same stage as teams like Boston nor Anaheim.
