The Cubs are coming off a one-game sweep of the Cardinals in the one-game homestand (OK, so it was a make-up of the rain out from last-month) and have jetted into Houston on a high after a 12-3 trouncing of St. Louis.

Lee steps in as Backe throws to first to keep Theriot close. Breaker misses low and away, Quintero throws behind Theriot, he's back in time. Grounder... foul near third. The 1-1 pitch is swung and missed, off-speed, for strike two. Fastball is low, 2-2, with Theriot taking a healthy lead. Off-speed pitch bounced foul. Fastball catches the low-outside corner, called strike three, and Lee didn't like it.

Milwaukee now leads 4-0 over Pittsburgh. Grounder, fair, past third, Jones is being sent, relay from C. Lee not going to be made, Kendall hits an RBI double and the Cubs lead, 1-0.

Soriano takes a tailing fastball over for strike one. Fastball high and in, umpire Andy Fletcher immediately calls an HBP, but the Astros are claiming it hit the bat, and it's a fair ball. Fletcher consults with the rest of the crew. Replay shows it may have hit him in the heel of the bottom hand, and the umpires confirm the call. Cecil Cooper is out to discuss the play.

Well, we're going to get into that Astro pen, which I don't think is too good in the middle. We'll stay in a tie after tonight.

I also see Turnbow is pitching now for Milwaukee.

I just don't get it.... it's like when there is any sort of pressure on the batter at the plate, they forget all about the "science" of hitting and just swing at anything that looks like a round white ball coming near them! BAM Double play...or pop fly!

The offense is so incredibly frustrating! 15 men left on base.... twice, they left them loaded. How many first pitch swings did they take tonight? Why not look at what the pitcher has after a couple of pitches! WHY ARE THEY SO IMPATIENT AT THE PLATE? Every pitcher in the league has to know that they will swing at the first pitch... so they throw them junk! AND THE CUBS SWING AT IT!

Every pitcher in the league has to know that they will swing at the first pitch... so they throw them junk! AND THE CUBS SWING AT IT!

They are all taking lessons from Alfonso Soriano, the first pitch is always a fastball and it is against the law to let it go. Soriano consistently gets breaking balls low and away on the first pitch and he chases it everytime. I can't remember the last time I seen him get a first pitch strike!!!

Looking at the highlights of the game, you have to still wonder what if C. Lee didn't get the ball that Theriot hit into the gap in the 8th inning? That's what saved the game for the Astros right there. If that fell, Cubs win by at least 6-4 in regulation.
