Let's play two left-handed.

For the first time this season, the Cubs will play a doubleheader, facing the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday in a day-night twin bill.

Sean Marshall will make his first start since Aug. 31 against Joel Pineiro in the second game, slated to begin at 7:10 p.m.

It's a tough assignment -- four games in three days.

"It might be tough if we were out of it, but we're trying to win the division," Chicago's Derrek Lee said. "When you have something to play for and you're trying to win the division, it overtakes everything else. The intensity is up, the adrenaline is going, these are fun games. You don't worry about the schedule now."

Marshall will make his 19th start of the season. He is 1-0 with a 4.60 ERA in three career starts against the Cardinals and has a victory this year, on Aug. 18.

"The rest should help my arm, and I should feel fresh," Marshall said.

St. Louis is 25-24 against left-handed starters this season, including an 11-10 record at Busch Stadium.

CHC: Sean Marshall (7-7, 3.92 ERA)
Marshall's last start was against the Astros on Aug. 31, and he gave up four runs -- one earned -- on five hits and four walks over 3 2/3 innings. He was switched to the 'pen when the Cubs acquired Steve Trachsel and made one relief outing. The Cubs are hoping Marshall can benefit from the time off and the extra time on the side.

STL: Joel Pineiro (4-3, 4.60 ERA)
Pineiro was like Superman in his last start -- up, up and away. He left all of his pitches up in the zone in a five-run fourth inning against the Cubs, and they made him pay. He gave up two home runs, three doubles and a single before leaving. It was his worst start since coming over to St. Louis in a deadline deal with Boston.

Player to watch
Both Cubs pitchers need to watch out for Pujols. He's 4-for-14 lifetime against Lilly with one homer and 2-for-6 against Marshall.

I'm watching it on MLB.TV from AZ (It keeps freezing up), but I don't know their announcers. Whoever they are, they aren't very good. Not as bad as the DBacks announcers as far as disrespect for the Cubs though.

i just came by to complain about them too :mad:. they are horrible. i was supremely disappointed to see the second game wasnt on wgn again; i put up with their afternoon programming, only to find the white sox game :(. and my end keeps freezing up too; i have to go back now and refresh.

I thought he pitched O.K.,ran into some bad luck when he struck a player out but the ball got away from Kenall and was safe,then it all broke loose,4 runs with 2 outs

Not horrible, but Kendall's error did him in, as the wheels fell off the cart after that.

That's pretty much how it happened. He wasn't that bad, it was just an unfortunate turn of events, and disappointing that he couldn't stay in any longer than he did.

I would rather have Marshall, but thats just me.

Marshall- younger and has his best years in front of him. Cheaper to keep him?

Trachsel- older and his best years are behind him more than likely. But being older and experienced has it's advantages.
