If we were to get Schmidt and Lilly I would slot Lilly into the #2 spot. No not because he's a #2 but because you can't throw 2 lefties back to back you need to mix the rotation up, also with days off the original 1-5 order never stays the same. I would start the season if we got them like this
1. Zambrano
2. Lilly
3. Schmidt
4. Hill
5. Miller/Prior/Cotts/Marshall/Guzman/***possibly Marquis***
That's a solid and nasty rotation

Six possible #5 starters....I'm liking the pitching depth if that happens..;)

Having six No. 5 starters is a nice problem to have. That means we'd have a lot of middle relievers/emergency starters.

if prior lives up to what he is capable of...he is probalby slotted in the rotation.
If prior is as good as he once was, he is almost as good as big zambrano now and schmidt 2 years ago...
then think about miller three years ago with the astros..........

That's fun to think about for sure, but the chances of all those guys (prior, miller, scmidt) playing back to form at the same time is pretty slim. I wouldn't mind seeing all the young guys battle for the 4 and 5 spots. I saw a lot of good things in marshall and marmol and the other yourng guys. As much as i would like to see prior pitch in 03 form, I dont have a lot of confidence it will happen and would like to see these young guys get in there be dominant. With some work i think they can do it

I think the all probability the starting rotation will look like this
1.Zambrano
2.Lilly
3.Hill
4.Prior
5.Marshall
Now thats a rotation I can live with.

I'm pretty sure the Cubs are the definition of emergency starter.....
Talking of which, how's Glendon Rusch doing, if anyone knows?
