This is totally sick

Even though he only pitched 4 innings, Morales has some awesome stuff

Now, they've won 21 out of 22 and are in the World Series for the first time in their history.

Can you guys believe this? Three out of the last four expansion teams (Rockies this year, Diamondbacks in 2001 and Marlins in 1997 and 2003) have all made the World Series, with two of them winning all three of the previous ones played. Luckily for us Cubs fans, the Devil Rays are still terrible.

It is probably the most remarkable runs ever, in any sport. The team is just ridiculous.I am psyched to have baseball in the forefront for once here in Colorado.

However, The other morning a radio DJ said that he followed the Rox for the first couple years and then stopped because "he had his heart broken too many times". I am happy for my friends that have followed the Rockies for a long time. It is incredibly exciting. But the comments, like this example, have made me want to puke as a Cubs fan.

The Rockies are truly a remarkabe team and this run is unbelievable. but it is tough watching people celebrate when I am not sure if they know what it means to live and die with a team.

Again, I am not knocking any of it. The team is very deserving. I am pretty much just green with jealousy.

I watched the whole game last night and I too am green with envy! Not that the Rockies don't deserve it, I just wondered what it would have been like last night had Derrek Lee, Soriano or Aramis been getting interviewed instead of Todd Helton, Matt Holliday and Willy Taveras. :(

I don't want anybody to think I don't think the Rockies don't deserve it. I have been watching this team for years and have seen a lot of these guys come through the ranks. They are a really good ball club. I was saying that in June. I am just a little more than slightly annoyed by some of the fans pretending like they have been through so much with this team. I have been to more games in Coors Field than most of the people that populated last night (I know speculation) and they are acting like they have been right by the team for years. When in all actuality, that ballpark is half empty after mid-august. It is frustrating for me. Again, mostly cause I am jealous.

VanMan, with the exception of the 97 Marlins, all these teams have built from the bottom up or at least used their farm systems to get their big names.

The Cubs haven't done it that way for one reason or the other since the post Green/Frey Era, maybe they fear the dropoff in attendance if they announce they are going into full-on rebuilding mode. Plus they had one of the most incompetent runs of player drafting and development in the 1990s in recent MLB history.

But you don't understand one thing: Fans will continue to spin the turnstiles despite who plays in Cubbie blue pinstripes. The main selling point is Wrigley Field itself.

Yea, but that has only developed the last ten years or so.

Cubs didn't break 2+ Million until 1984, and didn't consistenly stay near capacity unti the late 90s when the old ballparks started to fall

I think anymore, this may not be the case..... maybe a few years ago. However, the last couple of "bad years" (05-06), toward the end of the season, the upper mgmt really became concerned because every day, there was less and less butts in the seats. Sure, the tickets were sold, but the Cubs were losing more money due to concession sales, and the tv ratings were slipping. More and more Cub fans are done being complacent. I, for one, after going to two games at the beginning of the season in '06 and watching a blowout to two of the worst teams in baseball, boycotted and did not attend another game that year. Yes, Wrigley Field is like no other place on earth, but the "Wrigley Experience" was being ruined by the tone set with the play on the field. It isn't cheap to go to a ballgame, that's for sure and fans are frustrated with the "lovable loser" tag.

Some can say that this past year was a "rebuilding year", as the only real positions that were the same as '06 were first and third, and Zambrano. Hill could possibly be thrown in there, however in '06 he wasn't even with the team the whole season. There was a nice mix of veterans and young players put on that field. Lou, unlike the Reds new manager, didn't care how seasoned the players were on the field, and he made it known that he would put that hot hand on the field over the age or years in the big leagues.

Back to the post, watching the Rockies, they are setting a precedent for future teams all over the big leagues. People can look back and say "remember the '07 Rockies, they did the impossible. It can happen". These guys look completely magical on the field. As I watched them clinch it the other night, I thought to myself that this was right. This was THEIR year, not ours. These guys desereved every drop of champaigne that was poured over their head. They desereved every hug and high five they got from their fellow teammates. Over the past month or so, you saw everything click on that unbelieveable level...offensively, defensively, pitching. You saw unbelievable teamwork going on on that field.

One other bounus I see out of this..... I do believe now that Ryan Braun has been knocked out of the Rookie of the Year race and Troy Tulowitzki (sp?) has earned himself the title.

The Cubs players no doubt are watching this and drooling.... they got a taste of it, they see what the Rockies are doing. Hopefully this puts a burning desire in them to do whatever it takes to get it done next year. But until then, I am really enjoying watching this historical run on the field by the Rockies.
