I like the idea of signing him for two years that will give Pie a chance to become comfortable at Wrigley while he is given some days off also, not a bad idea

dont like the idea of signing him for 2 years, hes old. he was old when we had him in 03, but i would not mind him for a year

where would he bat?

The guy is up there in years but however to have a veteran on the team to assist with the younger guys is always nice. Not to mention he is still gonna give you 30+ stolen bases a year with a decent OBP and like I pointed out above with them signing him for two years it puts a little security behind Pie. With our 1, 3,4 & 5 spots being locked up already I think he is gonna be our number 2 hitter, Those two at the top of the line up with there speed would be amazing.

My guess he would bat in the 2 hole....not a horrible pickup.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind him there. But we do need a CF till Pie is ready. I am pumped for Pie though. I wanna see him play :)

It could be huge for Pie considering Lofton could help him get a idea of how to play center in Wrigley. Also it adds a speedy lefty (not as fast as he once was) we need near to top.

Yeah, not a bad signing if it happens. I just hope Pie does play for us eventually and plays well.

they need to have a trade in line for jones before they finalize anything with lofton

That's true Nolan. Unless they are thinking about benching Murton or something, which I would not be happy about at all. Who do you guys think they would trade Jones for?

I don't understand, why do we HAVE to trade jones. Noone has explained that

we all know it.. but his arm is a liability.. the chinese cringe every time he throws the ball because of the small earthquake it registers.. I mean, seriously though.. right field has to have more divits than a public golf course.. plus, they want to give soriano a corner spot.. and with murton being the cheaper, younger, and in my opinion more talented choice, they want to stick with him.

its turning into a dammed if we do and dammed if we dont kinda situation. FA SP signings will prob determine how the outfield winds up. I f we sign a big pitcher or two i dont see jones getting traded. If JH doesnt than jj will be the best trading piece for an SP. We need SP more thananything else, and JH knows it. I would hope anyway. Murton isnt going anywhere in either case. But, Ive been wrong before.

I like having him in center for 2 years, have him be the main guy this year, then next year switch with him and Pie so Pie can get used to it.

I believe they are considering JJ for Jennings from Colorado. Defense aside, JJ's production was very good and he doesn't really cost much. However, if it will bring in a starting pitcher, I would allow it. I also enjoy the idea of Soriano and Lofton at the top of the order. Lofton is getting older but is still producing. 360obp is an upgrade from Pierre. Stolen bases aren't much less than Pierre. If we do trade Jones, we are getting rid of our only lefty but I think Lofton is left as well.

If he can bring us a stud pitcher then lets do it. I like jones but right now we need pitching. I dont think i can go through another year like last year. How many different starters did we have again?

Brutus T Manstrength

last year? 87.. and of them, 83 were rookies.

We definitely need pitching. Just not sure who we would trade Jones for, other than Jennings.

LOL. Sad but true, but didnt he have a elbow injury?

Also, if we need a left handed bat in the outfield, why trade the only one there now??????

i guess, thats the best thing to do for the organization people think. i know we can't get rid of murton, i love that kid anyways.

JJ doesn't have the greatest arm, but you don't need a gun in CF. JJ costs less, and will put up better offensive production then Lofton. Unless JJ brings a starter, leave him in the OF.

Jason Jennings did have a great ERA for pitching in Colorado...

JJ does have a cannon for an arm. Just not accurate. I wouldn't mind jennings he would be a good addition to the cubs.

Why do we need a trade for Jones ready to go? We can go with a Lugo, Soriano, Jones OF with Murton on the bench. If anybody should be traded, it is Izturis and just put Lugo at SS.

Brutus T Manstrength

What's the point in putting an up and coming stud on the bench? Aside from being plain silly, it'd be useless.. I agree with you about izturis though.. dude needs to go if we can get Lugo to play there.. Sure, defense is great.. but I'd like a guy who can do both. Everyone makes errors from time to time... it's just a matter of when.. and I think I'd take that gamble on a guy who's going to bat 25 points higher than a guy with defense.

I'm not entirely sure if that made any sense. It was working better in my head than it seems to have now that I'm reading it
