Something fun to do to kill some offseason time.

1. "Ahh, Jesus, I like him very much, but He no help with curveball."

2. "Do you know what we get to do today Brooks? We get to play baseball."

3. "If you build it, he will come."

4. "I still get such a bang out of it, playing ball. Same as I did when I first come up. You get out there and the stands are full and everybody is cheering. It is like everbody in the world come to see you. Inside that there is the players in there and there yakking it up and the pitcher throws and your looking for that pill and suddenly there is nothing else in the ballpark you and it and sometimes when your feeling right and there is a groove there and the bat just eases into it and meets that ball. When the bat meets that ball you can feel that ball just give and you know it is going to go a long way. Damn, if you don't feel like your going to live forever."

5. "The one constant through all the years has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It's been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt, and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game, is a part of our past. It reminds us of all that once was good, and what could be again."

6. "A good friend of mine used to say, 'This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains.' Think about that for a while."

3 and 5 were Field of Dreams. A few years ago I visited the movie site and sat on the same spot in the bleachers that James Earl Jones sat before he got up to give that riviting speech. Heather, have you ever been to the movie site? It's only about a two hour drive from where you live.

I remember VanMan quote the lines from Kevin Costner to Susan Sarandon in Bull Durham. He had it down word-for-word. It was great. The off-season is a good time to watch baseball movies. Another one of my favorites is "The Sandlot".

That's because I did a search on IMBD and did the ol' C/P. That happens to be my favorite line from the movie, because I agree with about 75% of it.
