all he needed was what the cubs are doing now (knock on wood) and he never got it. i know the cubs are probably selling the team but spending 200 million this offseason you would think they had so money before then.
thoughts?

i know but after 2003, we did not go after anyone. dont say beltran, we gave him like 80 million. all we did was sosa, and lets not talk about last year. he wasnt given a team. dusty had the same influence. he made it to a world series and then led the cubs to the NLCS. damn u alex gonzalez

I think Dusty made some poor moves along the way, but you would have to say the Cubs would have been a much better team the last couple years if the organization would have spent the money like they have this offseason, not to mention getting hit by the injury-bug all the time didn't help. Let's just hope it doesn't happen again this year.

Lets just hope, because we can't say. I always say that we are gonna be good the next year. But I think this year, we are.

Before I die, if not, the world is gonna end. If we don't win a WS by the time I am 50, (16 now). The cubs organization should just cancel itself.

I liked dusty but i cant feel sorry for him too much simply b/c he basically inherited the 03 team and the quality of play has gone down steadily since. He's good at managing people to get along with each other but instructing them on how to play major league baseball is where i think he comes up a little short, and thats what this team needed most. This team didnt play like an mlb team until late july if memory serves. way too little, way too late. LP will get the younger guys whipped into shape faster and actually might work on fundamentals in spring training instead of april and may.

Yea, Lou has had a very big impact on the players coming to the Cubs.

Lou had an impact on Derosa and Soriano? I think the millions of dollars had the bigger impact. I agree about Dusty. I've always been a Dusty fan even though he got alot of flac. He went alot on instinct- sometimes he was wrong. The whole Wood/Prior/Lee situations led to his demise. Teams like the Braves have players go down to injury yet their young guys step up and becomes studs really quick. That would have been nice to experience. Oh well, we'll get 'em next year.

Well sure, the money had a big impact, but remember, the Cubs were last on Soriano's list of teams to go to, untill he met with Jim and Lou. Lou had a huge part to do with Soriano even considering joining the Cubs.

I don't feel bad for Dusty one bit. If I feel bad for anyone it's Kerry Wood & Mark Prior who have arm/shoulder problems due to Dusty.

I agree with everything you said except I wasn't too big of a Dusty fan to begin with.

I don't know who to side with on this one. Dusty had a lot of bad luck last year. I don't know of any manager in MLB who could've saved the Cubs from ruin in '06. Dusty was having to deal with new crises on a daily basis. On the other hand he did make some dumb moves. I would be ready to break the T.V. every time he let Glendon Rusch attempt to pitch or Ryan Dempster attempt to close! He was more of a father and friend to the players than a manager. That's just my opinion.

Yes, without question, Dusty's fault on that one.He rode those two like horses in 2003. 422 IP between the two. To make it worse it was Prior's first full season on the majors. Research Dusty's history. He's always abused pitchers, and really isn't all too demading with conditioning...

Based on Baseball Propectus "PAP (pitcher abuse points)", in 2003, Kerry Wood was #2, Prior #3, and Zambrano #10. The of the Top 10 were Cubs starters. The yea before, Livan Hernandez, Jason Schmidt, & Kirk Reuter were top 10. Dusty was their manager as well.
While the body has a lot to do with it, but studies have shown that pitchers under 25, throwing more then 180 innings, have a high potential of arm trouble.

that might be taking it a bit far.. while I do feel bad that the guy got treated like sweet lou did in Tampa(i.e. payroll wasn't what it should've been..), I think that he ground alot of our stud pitchers into the ground.

I relalized we were in trouble during the 2003 NLCS. Your team up by 2 runs after Gonzales (sp) screwed up that double play you just sit on your *** with no one warming up in the bullpen, rookie pitcher on the mound, you just sit there. I thought ANY ONE of our pitcher's starting or relief would gone in that game to get the last 2 outs. My point is HE JUST SAT THERE!! and did nothing meanwhile the Marlins kicked our ***! I am sorry I will never forgive him for screwing up our chance of getting the NL pennant!

Ditto .
He had 2 more games to get 1 win . There was no reason other than poor management , that the '03 team fell apart in those last 3 games. When that whole thing blew up , I knew there was no winning in him.
