View Full Version : Why not Dan Haren?

Even if Hendry discovered prospects to deal under his bed at home, The Cub's probably wouldn't be able to afford to resign Santana at the end of next season. Rumor has it that the A's are interested in dealing Dan Haren. Haren is a fantastic young pitcher and is signed through '09 with an optio for 2010. He is younger and cheaper. Why not?

Just speculating and prodding for everyones opinions.

I've read the A's are also willing to deal Blanton and Huston Street any of those 3 would look good in Cubby colors IMO.

I would be all for it if for no other reason than to stick it to the Cards fans.

I'd take any of these guys....all are pretty quality pitchers....Maybe pick up Street and Haren for Eric Patterson, Felix Pie and a couple other minor leaguers.

An Ace and a prime bullpen arm for unproven minor leaguers??

Not too many GM's would make that trade, let alone Billy Beane.

Billy Beane is all about scouting, developing talent while they are cheap and dishing them off before they start asking for too much.(Barry Zito for example) Haren or Blanton I think could be attainable and welcome addtions

What I'm saying is that no way BB would trade those two without getting pitching in return. The bidding would probably start with Gallagher and probably include any of Colvin/Pie/Patterson/Donaldson. A team doesn't just trade it's two best pitchers without getting arms in return. Plus, there are probably a dozen teams would likely surpass the Cubs offer easily.

Until the Cubs start building up the chips, trades like these are just flat out unrealistic. This is what really hurts about some of the trades the Cubs have made in the recent years, such as using guys like Crenshaw as 'toss-ins'.

I'm thinking we might get a deal for Haren or Blanton, but likely not both, as Bockstock said we dont have the depth in quality pitching to pull off that deal. It would be one or the other and either of them would be a welcome addition.
