We need rotation help. I just hope that since he's getting Washurn contract he don't start pitching like him. I'm not a fan of Lilly, but a lefty #3 never hurts. We still need to bring in a guy to go behind Z.

The most I could find on this was, "The Cubs were scheduled to meet with free-agent pitcher Ted Lilly's agent, Larry O'Brien, Monday night." That was right off the Cubs.com news. If anyone hears anymore than this please keep us posted.

Now that i think, AJ Brunett was a good deal looking at this, he is pretty good but always hurt.

I hear a lot of people knocking Lilly but here is the deal he has basically the same curve as Zito with a better fastball and has been pitching in the most hitter rich division in baseball. He might be a little bit of a head case but I don't see Piniella letting a pitcher act like Lilly did in Toronto. This is my opinion but I think this is a smart signing. Lilly and Hill will do well as our LH starters.

New to the forum. Hey . I would like to say that the cubs should sign lilly and someone else. I would really like schimdt but i dont thnk its happeneing. Hopefully lilly is signed by wednesday. I also hope the cubs can get lugo to play chort and add flloydd for another lefty bat. Then trade izturiz and some rp to someone for pitching. Also sign gil meche or migual batista. Maybe even marquis, even though he is my last choice.

So are you blame almost a 1 run higher era on division? I'm not buying it. The Angels and Rangers are two of the top htting teams in the league. Overall, Zito is a better pitcher

Zito has a dominance about him that Lilly doesn't. On the flip side I think Lilly s more of a headstrong pitcher where Zito needs some coddling from a good pitching coach. I think Lilly is a good 3rd starter, but that is all ou can really ask from him.

Once again its opinion. I will be more than happy with Lilly, overpaid or not. Zito is extremely inconsistent to me, particularly under preesure. Zito has been near the top in home runs alowed over the past three years, and thats in Oakland. Not exactly a hitters park. My point was to point out that they have similair stuff. I think that Lilly will find quite a bit more success pitching in the NL central with what I hope is a potent run scoring offense.

you have to over pay to get what you want, that is why teams like the royals, devil rays, and pirates will soon be forced to relocate to generate more revenue.

I disagree that those teams will be forced to move. The Royals have done a pretty good job at building a relatively competitive inexpensive team. What the teams need to do is read Moneyball and start acting like Oakland. If you haven't read that book, it's amazing. Billy Beane is a Baseball Genius.

I'm amazed that the Marlins had a payroll of around $15mil and competed for the wild card until around the last week. Royals compete with whom?

You watch.. they'll have a respectable team. Don't make fun of them too much: They won 62 games last year. We didn't do a whole lot better. Their pitching is their biggest problem.. and their.. emm.. "ace" decided that he didn't know if he wanted to play baseball anymore and was out for most of the season..

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you about payrolls/spending. Perhaps Oakland and the Twins are better examples.
We won 4 more games than the Royals last year. Ha! In their faces. We rule and the Royals drool!

Haha.. Suck it Royals!

and we only had to spend like.. 10 million more per win for those last 4!

Don't get me wrong, I'm in no way a Zito fan, and personally I'd rather have Lilly (less of a headcase), I just don't hink overpayong for him is the solution for the rotation, that's all. He's a good addition for our #3 starter (I'd actually put Jennings in the #2 spot, ahead of Lilly). I just think we al need to realize what we're overpaying for.
