View Full Version : Trot?

With the possibility of JJ going in the 3 way trade for SP Jennings, I read that JH has shown interest in Trot Nixon since the Red Sox didn't offer arbitration. Personally I'm all kinds of excited for the possibility of a contact hitter like Trot coming to town. Thoughts?

Good old school ballplayer. Reminds me of Walker (who I wish we never would have traded). He'd be good in right if we do end up trading Jones.

I don't see this happening because if JH is gonna focus on pitching and also another bench player I don't see where the money will come from for Nixon. Nixon made 7.5 Mil last year. I believe they will sign Lofton before they sign Nixon.

this is if the 3 way trade for jennings takes place. if that happens we dump 11 million of jj's salary and leave a vacant spot in right while filling one of our pitching vacancies. this way we fill right with a solid player, and free up 3.5 million for another FA pitcher or bench player. (if we sign him for a similar amount of money) if that trade doesn't happen, thats another story altogether.

Trot Nixon must be older than dirt. He is the longest tenured player on the Red Sox team. We do not need any 40+ guys for next year.

I say let the Pirates have em. He don't need another DL headcase IMO. I like the idea of lofton in center, Murton in left and Soriano im right.

Trot Nixon entered the majors at a young age he is only 32 years old, however I am in more favor of the 40+ year old in this case cause Lofton is gonna give us 30+ SB and Nixon holds 29 career SB, and not only that Lofton is gonna be the one that will be cheaper and will sign a 1-2 year contract while Nixon is gonna be looking for 3-4 years. With the possibilitie of having Pie and possibly Murton putting up big numbers there just isn't room for someone like Nixon in three years.

Agreed. If Jones is dealt, Lofton is a good stop gap until Pie or Patterson is ready. I do think picking up Floyd wouldn't be a bad move either. Some platoon duty, can play first and is a solid guy to have if we getbitten by the injury bug.

So, sign Nixon.. Tell him to take steroids to make him run faster.. then ship him off in a couple years to make room for Pie..

LOL! Good one brutus. I'm not a big fan of Floyd, unless he wants to be on our bench. I think we need to give Murton an opportunity to play everyday for a full season and see what he can do. Enough of this platoon stuff I keep hearing about.

Well seeing how they opened up the check book why don't they just buy his roids for him, still does us no good if Jimbo doesn't come out of the meetings with some pitching. Spend that money Jimbo make us all proud!!

Hasn't Nixon's numbers gone down hill the last few years?

I like Nixon (and beer) and he does remind me a bit of Walker, but in this situation, Lofton is gonna be a lot sexier at the top of the order.

trot would look great in the 6 or 7 spot, soriano is leadoff and iztuirs/derosa will be #2 so i dont see lofton being too productive anywhere in the lineup. Izzy probably wont be going anywhere now that lugo signed with boston. This is all moot anyway since the jennings deal prob wont go down.
