FINALLY JUSTICE IS SERVED!!! I can't be more happy and relieved right now. Art Monk (my favorite football player of all time) finally gets his due. This man has waited 8 years for this. In my opinion it was 8 years too long. He should have been a first ballot inductee, but unfortunately his humility worked against him. You never saw Monk doing a "look at me" touchdown dance. You never saw Monk celebrate a first down catch like he just won the Super Bowl. The man was a true professional and a wonderful person.
When Monk left the game years ago he was the leader of many receiving records, only to be surpassed by Rice among others. Monk played in an era when passing the ball 40-50 times in a game was out of the question. He played on Gibbs, rush first - pass second team. There is no doubt in my mind that if Monk played in today's era he would have greater numbers than he does now. And his numbers are still far better than many receivers already in the Hall. His knack for keeping drives alive with a huge third down completion, and his ability to be there for his team in crucial moments of the game were overlooked. I was fortunate enough to see almost every game he played in, and the man was AWESOME! He had the best hands of a any Redskins receiver i have ever seen (and we have had some good ones).

I hope that some of you that never got to see Monk play can take a little time and watch the video on this site. http://www.monk4thehall.com/
The site has been updated because Monk has finally made th HOF. But just click the link to the archived page. The archived page contains the video used to support a campaign bid.

Monk was a class act on and off the field. His play on the field did all the talking for him. He was a man of few words. THE NFL NEEDS MORE ART MONKS IF YOU ASK ME.

And if that wasn't enough, my second favorite player of all time gets inducted on his first try.

Darrell Green. :D The fastest man in the NFL for many years. What a wonderful human being, and one of the best corners to ever play the game. Some of you Bears fans may remember that cold day at Soldier Field when Green ran back a punt for a touchdown in a NFC playoff game. Returning punts wasn't something Green did very much, but i remember that play if it were yesterday. You may remember Green tore a rib cartilage on that play hurdling a defender. Simply Awesome! I can go on and on about how great of a player Green was, but i think everyone already knows that.

HE WAS GREAT! Not only that but he is a wonderful human being and i am glad to see him inducted on his first try.

81 and 28 - my 2 favorite players of all time, inducted the same day. WOW!

pardon my language, but the hall of fame can go to hell. It is a crock of you know what. Dent should have been elected a long time ago. Check out this stat.

This is the one that pisses me off the most: Fred Dean, WTF?

Richard Dent DE (83-97)

4 time probowler
5 time all-pro
137 Sacks
8 int
1 td
1 safety
13 FR
Superbowl MVP

Fred Dean DE (75-85)

4 time probowler
4 time all-pro
28 sacks
1 int
1 td
0 safety
13 FR

How could he get elected ahead of Dent? its a @#$%^ crock of !@#$%^&

"Career sack total near 100, but unofficial since sacks were not an official NFL statistic until 1982. . .Career best 17.5 sacks, 1983. . .Named All-Pro in 1980 and 1981, All-AFC twice, All-NFC twice. . .Name to four Pro Bowls. . ."

I agree Dent should be in. But to Dean's credit he had more than 28 sacks.

I agree that both Monk & Dent deserve to be in. However, in defense of Fred Dean, when did the NFL start counting sacks as a stat? IIRC, I think there was a time they didn't tally sacks.

I had similar sentiments regarding Monk's previous snubs, but eventually he got in. Maybe Dent will make it some day. He deserves it.

1982. Dean had unofficially around 100 sacks so says the HOF site. Wikipedia says 93.

In my opinion, sacks are an overrated stat. Some pressures & hurries are as good or even better than sacks, especially when they result in a turnover.

I remember the old saying we would all chant after a Dent sack: "Get Bent With Dent".

The mid-'80s; the Cubs and Bears were both good. What memories.
