Sources say that Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts will be traded to the Cubs as soon as the Orioles decide which pitchers they want in return. . . ..http://www.philly.com/inquirer/sports/15917802.html................http://forum.orioleshangout.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59672..............I have this feeling its going to be,Gallagher,Murton,Cedeno and Veal for BRob and Payton.I really think this is going down,Orioles injuries of pitchers Patton and Sherrill, these guys are in need of pitchers,so it will happen.

All I can say after reading that O's message board is wow. Those are some very dilusional fans with some of there expectations on the B. Roberts trade.

If the Cubs don't give up Pie, Colvin, or Ceda it'll all be good. I'm not really going to get my hopes up for anything actually happening though because this has taken so long and Angelos will probably ask for our entire farm system.

I think it will wind up being Cendeno (we knew it was coming when they signed Cintron), Gallagher, Veal and a lower level guy...

but maybe Colvin will be traded with all the road blocks he has infront of him for the next 5-6 years. Fukudome and Soriano.... and if Pie works out, he has no room except a 4th or 5th OF

Scouts from Orioles are in Mesa scouting our pitchers.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I'd trade Ceda while his value is high depending on who else is in the deal.

I'd probably keep Colvin around in case Pie/Fuld/Patterson don't pan out

Wow.... I'm sorry, but some of those "we want x and x and x for Roberts" make me laugh! Do they think Roberts is the next Sandberg?????? LOL!

I do, however, think that with the issues DeRosa is having now, a backup plan isn't a bad idea. And at this point and time, I am just as tired of the Roberts talk as I am of the snow that keeps falling, so even if it's a backup bench middle infielder, I don't care. They say that DeRosa shouldn't be out too long, but he is going to see a cardiologist on Monday, so we don't know when he will be cleared to play ball again. I'm just hoping that this DeRo thing doesn't back Hendry into a corner and make him give away the farm.

I was thinking the same thing. Having a little insurance wouldn't be a bad idea given DeRosa's recent health problems. The Cubs can ill afford to get too thin at another position. They still don't know what kind of production they will get at the CF, SS, and catcher positions.

Yes, very true, Taz..... but you know, I am sooooooooooooo tired of the Roberts talk. He is NOT the superstar that the Orioles are trying to portray him....and trying to get for him. There are other options for Hendry....and there is a fairly good outfielder for the Red Sox asking to be traded (although, i'm not too keen on Coco Crisp's attitude at times), I don't think we would need to sell the farm for him, and last I heard they were interested in Marquis, which would kill two birds with one stone for the Cubs.

I think the Red Sox signing Colon means they are probably not interested in Marquis, at least for the near future.

Your right Ryno! steriods aside this guys no better than Mark Grudzalanic or Todd Walker. We've been down that road before. Dero will be fine and don't count out Fontenot. E-patt is also still in the picture. To many around here want to throw our young guys away and not give them a chance to develop. If your not trading for a star player that is a difference maker then don't make the deal. Dero is a better player than Roberts just not a leadoff man. I think we can fill that roll w/o losing our young talent, which we will need down the stretch like last year.

If you think Fontenot is worthy of a 25-man roster spot and Patterson has the abilities of a full-time 2b it's not even worthwhile to go into the rest of your post.

And If YOU think that Roberts is worth what the O's think he his then go root for them.

I was curious about the Roberts dogging that I have been reading here and in other places, so I looked up some stats. If you take the last 3 years (assuming steriods were out the last 2 of them with the stricter testing/punishment) he's batting a little over .290, has a little less than a 1:1 walk/K ratio, is stealing something like 35+ bases, has a fielding percentage .985 or better and is pretty healthy (about 145 games/yr average). He's only 30 so while he's not the magical 27, he's still should have 3-4 very productive years in him.

I don't think he's worth all our plus-prospects, but he is definately a big upgrade for the Cubs at both sides of the plate (leading off), on the base paths, and in the field. I think that is worth some of our prospects, especially the ones who have MLB stars, with long contracts, that are currently in thier position.
