Mr. sanders Ilove that you are hopefully a cubs fan but I fear you may give me false hope.

I think it's more like who will we pick because Lilly is our #1 plan and if Toronto somehow outbids us Meche is plan B. He said he wanted to come here, but if we get Lilly Toronto out of desperation may offer him 10 mill.

I have no idea but if it comes down to money I give the nod to the Cubs as they seem to be spending it.

With the money being thrown around I think he could easily have signed for $100 mil elsewhere. Thanks Aramis. You are the man.

My hunch is we will wind up with either lilly or meche, but not both. Im not saying thats right or wrong, I just think thats what will happen. We'll see how much faith JH has in the young arms- (Marshall, Marmol, Guzman, Omalley) You'd figure one of those guys will turn into a quality starter.

Its about 50/50 IMO between the Blue Jays and the Cubs *Unless the Royals give him a billion dollars to join their staff, which still might not get the job done*

Both teams are expected to be very good this season and both are going to have solid rotations which he will be a major part of.

So if both teams offer the same amount of money, its really up to Meche to decide which team will have a better season in his opinion really.

Steve Phillips is reporting, Kansas City, 5 years, no word on the $.

I'd like to see the Jason Jennings talks revisited...

yea this sucks....any word on what other pitchers the cubs might go after? i remember them talking about Marquis, i doubt that Jennings deal will happen......i wonder if Suppan or Mulder will be considered now.

The Jennings deal will never happen. I believe last I heard they were asking for Rich Hill. That wouldn't make ANY sense for us. I heard a little while ago that we were going hard after Suppan. I'm cool with that. Marquis is too risky because he is so inconsistent. If the "change of scenary" thing were to work like they say it could and straighten him out, I would be all for it, but it is just too hard to tell with him. Not to mention that he gave up a TON of homeruns last year. We have glendon rusch to do that for us. We don't need Marquis! :p

Big fish in a small pond is about the only reason i can think of. I dont think money was a factor b/c you know JH would have offered as much or more. When the best player on the team is Grudz, (dont get me wrong he's great but, still) you have issues.

Maybe people are wrong and money IS everything. It's not whether you win or lose, it is how much you are getting paid...

...or something like that.

Yea i'd be down for Suppan too, a guy that can give you 200 innings and keep you in the game........i just found this

Bruce Levine of ESPN Radio 1000 reports that a signing of pitcher Jason Marquis may be near.

if that's true i think the change of scenery would benefit him and us, look at the Barrett project and how well that turned out. heres the link

If that happens we might also be able to deal a young arm for another bat or CF? if not suppan or marquis will be a great addition. This kind of rotation will give something we didnt have last year,- chances to put 7,8, and 9 games WINNING streaks together.

I'd rather win 2 out of every 3 than win 9 in a row.. the slow and steady win the race

i know, just a spin on the fact that we lost 7 in a row multiple times last year

I think the cardinals had AT LEAST two 8 or 9 game losing streaks. i have always viewed the cubs as a team that could never recover from that sort of thing like the Cards obviously did. Maybe this year will be different.

I heard on FSR Andrew Sicilliano saying Meche went to the Royals for 5 years, $55 million, and then called it "the ultimate money grab," saying it was a bigger grab than when Pudge went to Detroit 5 years ago.

It's rediculous, everyone is overpaying this off season---including the cubs.

i didnt think KC had that much bank, i mean they draw what 5 fans per game? Gotta spend it to make it i guess. I'm not up to date on the Royals rotation, don't tell me meche will be their ace.

Grienke is who they've kind of been touting as their ace, as well as Odalis Perez.. Grienke's got some mental issues though.. I heard the royals went into this offseason with 15 to spend
