I mean really gang look at the post titles. It's a week before the season and a lot of you are in pannick mode or doubting evrything and everyone.
Step away from the ledge. It will be ok. I trust Lou and Hendry forget the press because they know as much as we do which ain't much.
So GO CUBS GO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My feelings exactly. I don't get why some of us get so needlessly worked up, its spring training. The operative word is TRAINING! I'll bet most of the regulars are not playing 100%, their just getting work in and trying to not get hurt. The only players to look at are the ones trying to make the team, they are playing at 100% all the time. I like what I see from Pie!
Everyone should stop acting so sensational (Until the season starts in 1 week!!)

I only get worked up because I'm tired of hearing all these Bull S*** rumors. Let the team play.

I think all of us would agree, its been a very SLOWWWWWW off season and we are all suffering from "no baseball syndrome", I know I have it from November to April. I can't wait to get my fix, I'm going crazy! But, just stop talking about trades, it makes it worse!

Its like at a steak-house, seeing a great looking steak going past your table, making the wait for your steak that much harder.

Except the past 100 years, instead of getting a porterhouse like everyone else, we have been getting butt steak.

Losing is a cow brain & onion sandwich! 2003 qualified as a sirloin (at first).A world series would be a dry aged rib-eye! Any more beef-to-season analogies? :D

I understand what you mean. That's kinda why I haven't been on here much lately, people have been freaking out a lot. I'm really not too worried.
Some people say that championship teams don't have this many questions, but look at the Red Sox. They're already the favorites to win the World Series and they've got some pretty big questions. Is Jacoby Ellsbury going to be able to take over in center field for a whole season? Are Jon Lester and Clay Buchholz going to handle the load of being a starter all season? Is Josh Becket going to be ready in time for Opening Day? Seems kinda similar to some of our questions. Is Soto going to be able to take over behind the plate for the whole season? Are Dempster and Marquis going to be able to handle the load of being a starter all season (I say Marquis because he sucked the last half of the season). Is Wood gonna handle his new role as a closer?
So of course there's always a lot of questions for any team before they go into a new season, so I don't see why everyone has to freak out over a few.

I'm not worried about Wood because Marmol is ready and waiting. Wood finding ANY role on this team at this point is a bonus. If anything, I'm more worried about the rotation... will Z come out of the box the same way he did last year? Will Lily show good in the regular season and flop again in the playoffs? Will the 4 and 5 spot ever really be secure?
The offense on this squad is intense... the bullpen is looking great... the rotation? Ok, but no where near superb...
Am I the only one who thinks they should have made a push for Santana? All these prospects that seem to clutter the roster and never really show up when it counts... why do we need all of them?

First of all....welcome to the board! Always glad to have new members with us!
I have to totally agree with ya. I'm not worried about Wood. He is going to throw the least number of pitches in the closer spot...and his confidence is there. I really think that I will be more excited to see him take the mound in the ninth to close down the save than biting my fingernails off as I did when Demp took the mound.
Z looks much more at ease and seems more comfortable earlier.....
Lilly.... I think he is comfortable on the team and hopefully he will be as strong as he was last year.
The pen, I love the depth. The trainwreck we had a couple of years ago where our pitching staff couldn't stay healthy and we got WAYYYYY into the minors to help us out is in the past! It's nice to know that we have so many backup options if an injury does occur.
Santana.... it would have been nice, but that would have been another long term deal that would have needed to be locked up and I don't know as if Hendry had that kind of freedom.
Again, welcome to the board and look forward to talking some Cubbies with ya!

I thought it at first too, but as it turns out making the "push for Santana" was impossible. He had some clause in his contract or something that stipulated he'd only agree to sign with a team that had ST in Florida and was on the east coast or something. Strange... I don't remember where I saw that, but it was somewhere I know. Apparently the Cubs weren't even allowed to talk to him.
