Chiefs Logo Ready for Sweet 16 Matchup Monday
Your Vote Crucial for Elite Eight Berth!
PEORIA, IL-The No. 13 Peoria Chiefs logo looks for its third straight bracket upset on Monday in the Sweet Sixteen round of the Minor League Baseball Logo Contest on Darren Rovell’s The Sports Biz Blog at CNBC.com.
Having already posted upset wins over No. 4 seeded Fort Wayne and No. 5 seeded Alburquerque, the Chiefs logo now hops to take out the No. 9 seeded Grand Prairie Air Hogs. The vote, which takes place at www.darrenrovell.com, begins at 8 am CDT on Monday and will end at 8 am CDT on Tuesday March 25.
“The last two weeks have been fun and we are thrilled with the support in the first two rounds from our fans both locally and nationally,” said Chiefs President Rocky Vonachen. “Hopefully the fans will rally around us again on Monday and help push us through to the Elite Eight.”
Despite entering the tournament as a 13 seed, the Chiefs received outstanding support in the first round for a commanding win over fellow Midwest League participant Fort Wayne. With the deck stacked against them in the second round, the Chiefs rallied for another Cinderella story to defeat Triple-A Alburquerque by nearly 30 percent of the vote. Now the Chiefs face another squad that has pulled off back to back upsets.
“After watching the upsets in the NCAA’s this weekend we are thrilled to have a similar matchup,” said VP of Sales Joe Wagoner referencing the 12 vs. 13 matchups in two basketball regionals. “The Airhogs have received a lot of support in this tournament so we are going to have to be on top of our game Monday from all facets: The logo needs to be prepared as does our staff and our great fans.”
The winner of the Chiefs vs. Airhogs matchup will await the winner of No. 3 Southern Illinois Miners vs. No. 2 West Tenn Diamond Jaxx for a berth in the Final Four.
