First off, a big hello to everyone here at fogpog. I usually post over on the cubs.com board, but there has been a lot of spamming and trolling going on over there, and it's quite aggravating.
Now, to the business at hand. Bruce Levine just gave an update on ESPN 1000 that made it sound like the Cubs are basically finalizing details on a 4 year deal for Ted Lilly. However, the Yankees are said to be interested, too, and they are Lilly's first choice. We will have to see how all this plays out.
That said, we need two pitchers, and it looks like we'll have to make at least one trade. The deal for Jason Jennings seems to be dead, but reports out of L.A. are that Brad Penny may be available. The Dodgers need a corner outfielder, and the Cubs have been looking to move Jacque Jones for a while now. It would probably take Jones and a couple of prospects, maybe Carlos Marmol and/or Will Ohman to get it done, but that could be a deal we make.
Gil Meche may yet sign, but it appears Toronto has upped their offer to him after losing out on Ted Lilly.
Best regards to all,
