Here's an idea.....don't let him pitch in the major until after the all-star break. Hasn't he given up a run in all his appearences so far this year?? GARBAGE.

he is a slow starter. always has been. better idea would be to not pitch him in a close game

There will be many more times this year he will be effective, opposed to ineffective. Howry is far from garbage. He may even be one of the top 10 set-up man in the game by the looks of his last 3 seasons. He's struggling right now, but no doubt he will be fine.

Yes he'll be effective once he gets his velocity up no doubt....But right now I don't want him anywhere near the mound....Lou said in his interview that they mihgt use him in spots that aren't as meaningful in a game, hopefully this will help.....but god he sucks right now.

If you dont pitch him in games then how will he improve, he is throwing grapefruits at the minute but come a month or two, he will be back to dominating certain hitters, setting the table perfectly for Kerry, i would rather he was garbage now than at the end of the season.

This is just my opinion, takes this how ever you like:
Howry doesn't suck. He's a Cub, I'm a Cub fan. I'm not going to degrade the players on the team I root for. I'm willing to see & point out their struggles, but I'm not going to bash them or agree with people who do. Even if they are a mediocre ball player, that's what I will calll them.
Eckstein sucks, Ankiel sucks, Piersynski sucks, Edmonds sucks, Weeks sucks, Turnbow sucks, Isringhausen sucks, etc. etc..... This is more extreme than booing, in my opinion.
They don't wear Cubbie blue, they wear they oppositions jersey who I will root against, but eating your own & hating on your own players is something about some fans I never understood, but I guess it will always be that way. I just will never agree with it.

I wish Bob would speed up his pitching. He is way to slow in throwing his pitches after he receives the ball from the catcher. It's almost painful to watch.

Yeah, he is not fooling anyone, after that big inning I was screaming Marmol all the way, Lou has to put him in that situation. But it worked out, CUBS WIN.

Lou should have made Marmol the closer after Wood gave up those 3 runs against the Brewers. Your pretty much saying the same thing, only 4 more games into the season, so lets see if Howry can bounce back.

Why doesn't Howry do something about his necklace that always fly out of his jersey. He has to stick it back under his shirt almost after every pitch. I know it probably doesn't effect his pitching, but it seems like an annoyance.

Bla Bla Bla! Howry SUCKS! He should never pitch unless we are up by at least 8 runs!

Wood bounced back his very next opportunity and now has 3 saves in 3 victories. Howry has not bounced back. How many games does he get to make a mess of? 3? 5? 1 more? Seriously - how many consecutive blown saves would you be willing to tolerate? 3? I don't think you would wait for 5.
If Wood had 4 blown saves how long would he be tolerated? How long does a guy have to bounce back? How long should Howry be tolerated until he figures it out? I say not long. I say if he is lousy again you get really cautious about using him.

HA!HA!
You must not really understand baseball if you are going to judge Howry on two or three OUTINGS, instead of his last three years numbers which are excellent for a MR.

Looks like the joke is on us...LP insists on putting this guy in and Howry insists on screwing it up.

Me too, I just don't want him anywhere near the mound until late June when his velocity starts to come around.

suppose you want to say lets pull soriano and ramirez out of teh lineup too.. don't let them bat till they can hit
nobody busts out of a slump without work... he will be fine

i dont think that we can just give up hope on Bob its too early to give up on anyone besides then we shouldnt have soriano in the outfield if thats the case hes not hitting worth a thing in the early goings

Howry will be fine, he has always struggled early, but I do agree with Lou by trying not to put him in such pressure situations until he gets a little more work on the mound out there. I would say that it would help if the Cubs had a very large lead before the pen had to go to work.... but this is baseball, that may not even matter (look at Monday's game!)

I feel the same way, maybe we can put him in when we have 5-6 run lead from now on.
