He is now saying he will not sell the field separate from the team !!!!! That will cut out a lot of underfunded buyers , like maybe Selig's buddies !! This will be a big ticket item and only someone with lots of cash will be open to it .

It could also say the most liquid buyer is saying he wants Wrigley with the team . This is making me think Cuban , being he is the best funded , is showing the cash and is on the fast track towards ownership .

Well it took Zell how long to figure this out??? As much as I can't stand him he finally made some sense. I wasn't to fond of the idea of Wrigley being one owner and the Cubs under another owner anyway.

All it took was Jim Tompson's idiotic plan to sell seats like condos. I'm so glad the corrupt Ill. gov. didn't get ahold of the park. Don't think this is over though. It's just the first salvo being fired.

From Crane Kenney:

"Any transaction transferring ownership of Wrigley Field to the public must satisfy the interests of Tribune, the Cubs and the public. While we appreciate the creativity of the latest ISFA proposal, it does not work from Tribune's or the Cubs' perspective,'' said Crane Kenney, Cubs Chairman. "We'll continue working with the city and state and at the same time begin the private process to explore interest in the team, stadium and our ownership interest in Comcast SportsNet.'

And Jim Thompson:

The deal, "still has life as far as I'm concerned," he told WGN-AM 720 host Spike O'Dell, this morning. He also said Tribune Co. Chairman Sam Zell told him to expect a letter today outlining the company's position with a request that Thompson then call Zell to discuss it.

When asked what he would do if the proposal is rejected, Thompson responded: "To act properly by going back to Sam Zell and negotiating further

What do you guys think about the prospect of Cuban owning the Cubs?

It kind of scares me to think what he'd do to Wrigley... he's known as an "innovator" and I have a feeling he wouldn't get along with Lou at all... I am very skeptical of Cuban.

Me too..... I don't know a whole lot about Cuban (or the other prospective buyers for that matter), but I heard an interview with a couple of sports writers in Dallas last week who asked what Cuban would be like if he were to buy the Cubs. The two writers pretty much downplayed Cuban big time. They said that yes, Cuban has money and made cosmetic improvements... but Cuban's decisions ususally benefit nobody but Cuban and that he is very self indulgent....it's all about Mark Cuban not the team and there have been times he has not made the brightest business decisions.

This is what I prefer a single owner over a group ownership , ego . You want to win the World Series for bragging rights. It is more likely that an owner with an over-inflated idea of self worth to spend for a win than a group of partners. With a group you get too many different personalities and more likely to get an accountant type that is less inclined to care about winning as much the balance sheet .
