We don't always love sports just for drama in the wins/losses, stats, action, etc.... a lot of what really gets to us in sports is the story behind the player... or the achievement that you know means alot to the person/people involved. That's why sports movies are such hits.
I just watched the postgame stuff with Jon Lester who, at age 24 has been diagnosed and beat cancer in 2006, came back and pitched the clincher in a World Series and tonight threw a no hitter. I teared up. Okay, so I cried like a baby..... but it was such a touching story.
Just wondering if anyone has any stories about a sports moment/story that made them tear up or cry....or want to cry?
-I teared up after the fans gave Maddux a standing O after his last start at Wrigley.....
-I also cried when he pitched his last game in a Cubs uniforn and as he walked off the field with a standing O and tipped his cap ever so non-chanlantly.....
- How about Ryan O'Malley's first start in a Cubs uniform.... what an amazing story.
-Woody's first major league appearance out of the pen..... you knew how hard this guy had worked for that very moment, to get the call and walk to the mound and stand there in front of the Wrigley Faithful....
I'm sure I'll think of more......
anyone want to share stories?
