A great Cub fan!!!

My grandfather died this morning after 81 years of faithful Cub fandom in Springfield Illinois, which is mostly enemy (cardinal) territory. I used to watch games with him everyday during the summer. I was 8 yrs old when Mitch Williams locked up the playoff birth over Montreal, and I called my grandfather from Colorado. The man had 11 children, 21 grandchildren, and my son is his first great grandchild, the smart ones were Cubs fans, the others we don't know what happened to (just kidding). He loved the Cubs as much as everyone of his kids and grandchildren! He was a great man and he will be missed greatly!

Sorry to hear about your loss, weeghman. Nice to see you have some great memories with him that you can take with you. Since he was old enough to see this, did he ever talk to you about 1945 and the last time the Cubs were in the WS? Just wondering. My condolences. :)

Thanks guys. He didn't talk about the '45 cubs much cause he was still on a boat in the Pacific. But the late '60s and mid '80s teams always were the ones he liked to talk about.

My condolences. Both my Grandpas were never really into baseball so I never got to experience the joy of watching the Cubs like you and your Granfather.
