View Full Version : How would Vernon Wells look in our CF?

Toronto has let it be known they can't afford to re-sign him next year. Why doesn't Hendry be the first to contact them and at least see what it would take to get him? That gives us a year to free up ( we still have some more room ) some money and lock him up. Right now , we have Big Z , Hill , Miller , Lilly , Marquis ( I still think a waste of $7m ) and hopefully Prior. Offer up Marshall and Marmol and see if they like that. Of course we don't want to do this unless there is a real good chance he would sign with us , he will get Soriano-like $$. With the lineup we have , who wouldn't want to hit in the middle of it? Just my 2 cents worth. I think it is worth exploring.

I would love to have Wells in CF but I'm not sure we have enough to give them....but a phone call wouldn't hurt..:)

Tampa Bay is shopping him as he is a free agent after '07. We could get him for a lot less , yet he too is a top quality young player.

I love Baldelli....lot's of potential. One downside is his injuries.

There is no way we can get Wells, we don't have enough to give. If we do they want too much.

I read somewhere that Marmol was one of our 3 untouchables.

I could see if he was on a list of our 30 untouchables. He's just not consistent. He needs a couple more years in the minors to see what he will be.

I dunno.. I mean, Pie ain't looked so hot in the minors.. but he's one of our untouchables too.. I guess they see a lot of upside in him

Pie hasn't looked hot in the minors?

He also hasn't looked cold. Pie's stats (http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/milb/stats/stats.jsp?n=Felix%20Pie&pos=&sid=t451&t=p_pbp&pid=429712)

Oh and trust me guys, Crawford is a better IMO. ITs true that Wells has more power and a great defender, but Crawford is faster and hits for good power too. Steals lots-o-bases (i will really miss JP:mad: ) so he screws with the pitchers head and allows hitters to hit with RISP. I really like Crawford but hes not coming here.

I'd prefer Baldelli over Wells. I think it's more realistic. I can't see JH shelling out another Soriano type deal at the moment. Baldelli would sign for a lot less, though he'd probably cost more. Tampa overvalues all their players.

Baldelli might not be bad, but he's pretty similar to Jones. It is true that he is younger and has a little more speed, but Jones also has more power. I wouldn't necessarily be against it, but it's kind of a wash. Jones really isn't that bad when you compare him to what we would be able to replace him with, and if we move him to CF his arm isn't going to be as much of a factor anyway. We just need to make sure he even wants to play for us anymore. If not, he obviously needs to go.

Iver heard JJ wants to be traded but Im not sure anyone we trade him to would offer us anything we need. I think if gets another season at wrigley under his belt he will warm up to everyone, provided the right field bleachers stop throwing stuff at him. Right field sucks!! JK

irony is.. isn't right field bleachers the family section?

Someone asked Carrie Muskat if the reports of him requesting to be traded were true, and she said they weren't and he never asked for a trade. And on ESPN he said he never did, and he just wants to play, wherever that may be.

The paper today reported that Toronto was about to resign him for a deal bigger than Soriano.
