We know they have Carpenter and may retain Weaver, but who else is in the Cards rotation for next year? Marquis signed with us, Suppan is more than likely gone, as well as Mulder. I've heard they are interested in Batista, but who else? I would be pretty nervous right now if I were a Cardinal fan. :D

Welcome to the board. Good to hear from you. :)

I agree. I hope the bandwagoners wait a while before they start coming. Tickets are hard enough to come by for the die-hard fans. ;)

They'll have enough to compete. Jim Edmonds wears make up

Im sure card fans arent worried, as usual they think their s*** doesnt stink, world champs or not. They need to shore up that rotaion and find some bats at the top and lower end of their lineup. I think the NL is finally kinda sorta starting to figure out pujols so i dont think they can rely on him to carry the offense next year. He will produce certainly, but his damage is limited when no one else gets on base. Edmonds and Rolen are solid hitters but their health is questionable. Jockety has work some work to do.

I hate to bring you guys down, but they're not gonna crown our asses just yet. Cardinals as always will put together a solid team. Eckstein and Kennedy will get on base enough to give Pujols, Rolen and Edmonds (who still wears makeup) something to work with. Throw Duncan or Rodriguez or Spezio or Encarnacion back there, and they're gonna be there. We'll see what they have as a rotation, but its gonna be comparable to what we have

Shwerve
Dec 12th 2006, 6:57 pm
I'm not saying these guys are equal (I think we have the edge) but they will be comparable in terms of success.
Zambrano/ Carpenter
Lilly/ Wells
Hill/ Reyes
Marquis/ bat boy
Prior or Miller will be the wildcard

yeah i forgot they picked up kennedy. eckstein is a pesky hitter and was the catalyst for that offense, im still not convinced they can produce offensively with the rotation they will be putting out there everyday. they will still be good but they are headed in the direction of mediocrityunless changes are made

they have a winning tradition in recent past so the players seem to rise to the challenge, as much as I hate to say it. I like their style of play. They seem to find ways to win, which is what good teams are supposed to do. I only hope we can figure that out this season.

I think the cardinal's success depends on how good a year pujols has. Even if their rotation can be good enough without pujols producing, they wont go far.

Shwerve

Pujols will get 590 ABs (look at his stats with the exception of this year- its eery) hit .330, 40 some homers, 125rbis/ he's not the question. If Rolen is healthy and Edmonds doesn't drop off too much, they'll be fine. No one is crowning us just yet. Time is running out for the Cards to get a pitcher or two.. If they fix that, they'll be around. The Disastros will put on a late surge when they figure out who their rotation is as well. They upgraded their offense with a Cub killer. Brewers are young and will be fine. Come to think of it they need to figure out their rotation as well. hmmmmm. Pitching wins!

I don't think they have any chance of getting a good rotation now.

That Brewers rotation could give this division fits next year.

Cards keep thinking trash bin rejects will have vastly improved seasons in St. Louis. Their luck with that is due to run out, their 07 rotation looks to be among the worst in MLB. They will NOT be contenders in 07.

I agree. I think they will still be a decent team, but I don't see them making it to the playoffs this year.

By the way, welcome to the board!

LaRussa always seems to get the most out of his players, they will find ways to win. I dont think they will improve much on last year (record-wise) but i think they will have a similar season

Thanks, guy!

I must admit, I am a former Cardinal fan, that HATES Tony LaRussa. I started liking the Cubbies in 2004, so I'm a Cub fan NOOB I guess?

But I've been a baseball fan, HARDCORE, for over 35 years!

The Cards don't have much of anybody in there rotation with the exception of Carpenter and Weaver I don't know about Mulder, but I still would be worried because the Cards pitching has been declining for about 3 years or so and they still seems to win the central

Weaver hasn't been signed yet. His agent, Scott Boras, is looking for a 3 yr 30 million dollar deal at minimum. The Cards are too cheap to go there for Weaver.

Welcome to Cubdom!! Great to have you on the team! I'm kinda curious as to how you were turned from the darkside, but thats for another thread I s'pose.

Anyhoo I dont see the cards making any pitching splashes, everyone is taken and they will have to make some trades to get a veteran arm. In which case i see them having to give up Duncan, Bennett or a piece of their bullpen. Unless they know some things about their farmhands that the rest of the world doesnt, LaRussa will have a tough road ahead of him. He'll find a way to compete, he always does.
