View Full Version : Get ready to add Wolfe to the team

No, I do not have any inside sources, nor do I have any first hand knowledge. But look at the teams that were in the Sabathia derby.

Tampa Bay and LA, just to name two. They both have been farm systems and more major league ready talent then we have. Sad but true. They can each offer up better players and packages for Harden and Burnett then we can. So IF they are interested in those guys, as they are the presumed 2nd and 3rd best pitchers available, one would imagine that they would now turn their attention to those two starters, leaving the Cubs to go after Wolfe.

I cant say that the idea of Wolfe excites me

Wolfe isn't any better than what we already have, people are worried about our pitchers going on the DL, wolfe is a regular on the DL and hasn't looked the same since his tommy john surgery.

Wolf sucks, giving up useful players for him sucks even worse

Coincidentally, this is probably what Hendry will do and sell this as 'the big move' aka Kendall and Trachsel last year.

we cant complete with the Rays and Dodgers as far as prospects go. Plus, if he isnt 100% he is a waste

I have a feeling Hendry is going to pull off the Harden deal. He might end up giving up too much for him since our prospects are kind of limited. I'm not too excited about giving up a lot for an injury prone pitcher, but I think that's what will happen.

Were they merely citing the Sun Times article about Hendry talking to Beane, or is there more to it?

First off, Buster Onley got the major scoop on CC because he knows Shapiro better than any baseball writer. He knew about a possible Brewers/Indians swap for a for 2 weeks. If Hendry is talking to Beane, it means something. I would settle for AJ Burnett, but Harden would be much better.

This team doesn't need a front of the rotation ace, it needs a no.2 quality stater.

He has supposedly been talking to Beane for a month.

don't want any of the pitchers mentioned in this post. They are not worth anyone unless they will take Murton straight up and maybe some cash

It's time to stop the fantasy that Matt Murton is worth any full-time major leaguer in trade value at this point

However, if the Rays are interested the CUbs could flip Murton to TB for some of the talent in their extensively deep farm system and use them in a trade with Oakland.

You never know Bockstock, according to Hendry's trading log- we traded a 1st ballot Hall of Famer for Caesar Izturis. I know we were doing Maddux a favor, but you never know.

Back, I think you just contradicted yourself in the same thread.

I dont know if we will get much for Murton. We have been trying to trade him since spring training. NO one has made much of an offer apparently

I have a gut feeling the Cubs will get AJ Burnett. Remember when the Cubs were in Toronto & AJ's comments on how much he would love to be a Cub? My guess is Hendry gets it done. It will happen at the trade deadline.

too bad he has no say in where he will be traded

Contractually he may not. However, if a player lobbies his GM to be traded, especially to a particular team, it can have a major impact in trade negotiations. That being said, he does have a say!

TheBenjamin
Jul 8th 2008, 3:25 pm
how so?

Player A: I want to be traded to Chicago

GM: Too bad, City X is offering us more then Chicago is.

Player A: But I want to go to Chicago

GM: Then tell them to give us more

just because a player wants to go someplace doesnt mean he will be traded there

I don't read his statement as a contradiction. He's sayiing Murton can't be traded directly for a major leaguer, but he threw out the idea of trading him for prospects to TB and then trading the prospects to the A's. I just don't think that will happen though. The Rays do have a deep farm system. I would think they would go after a better player than Murton though.

TheBenjamin

I dont think we will get quality prospects for Murton. Maybe a few mid level hopefull guys, but no sure things. And we wont get Harden for a few midleve hopefull players

I never said that. I said a player can have a impact in negotiations if he desires a certain team to go to.
